I am using (emulated?) surround sound headphones. Could be an issue with that as I've noticed similar issues in some older games like Dragon Age: Origins too. But I find the surround sound quite helpful when listening for enemies around corners so I don't really want to give it up. Anyway, I expect a game released in 2023, even if it is a remake of a 1994 game, to work properly with surround sound headphones. Currently the audio balancing is suboptimal but not bad enough to really annoy me. Like I said, the biggest shame is that the great soundtrack rarely gets a chance to shine.
I noticed that the audio sounded a little off there, like it was too far to one side or the other or would just totally cut out for a few seconds after interacting with a button or something like that.
But that was only in that area and went back to sounding fine once I left.
