Hacking the sentry turret?

When targeting the sentry turret in the Maintenance CPU room, it says Hack [Left Alt].
But i was not able to do anything by pressing Left Alt at any distance to the sentry... except getting shot to death.

Am i missing something?

From what I've experienced so far, hacking works only when the target doesn't look directly at you.

Didn't even realize enemies could be hacked too...
Although i now tried it on sec-robots that where looking the other way and it also didnt work, after the hacking bar fills up it just says scrambling for a long time and nothing happens... until the bot finally turns around and shoots at me ...

pressing Left alt gives you target information, and with better targeting module, a round indicator of the enemies weakspot. when the enemy has not jet Spotted you, you can HOLD left alt to hack them, which, in my experience, makes it so that you can run up or shoot them for a few seconds without them retaliating/realizing. Hacking is apparently "give player a surprise round at start of combat", not "turn them friendly" like in other games. Really useful for melee.
