It does 2 less damage per bullet but it is an smg that is capable of singe shot tapping or holding for full auto.
Until then, I'd say just save the ammo and use energy weapons or the shotgun because the shotgun drops off heavily on the later levels.
Thankfully you are pretty close to finding the mini pistol's big brother, which can carry you all the way to the end of the game if you preserved ammo.
Please tell me you haven't been shooting the robots.
In the original SS the minipistol basically carried me for an extremely long time, I was even using its teflon rounds to take out Security Bots.
To be perfectly frank, the 9mm pistol cartridge, if compared to real-life 9mm isn't particularly strong when it comes to stopping power. I mean, it can kill a person... tomorrow. But when you need to STOP something, you have to magdump it or score shots to the cranium, spine or heart or some major artery.
So I guess if there was something I'd like to see with the minipistol, it would be a fire-rate increase.
Againts cameras and such you can always use low power energy mode.
Late game pistol just lack the dps againts enemies.
