Feature Request: Written notes on map (like in SS2)
I'm seeing plenty of people in the forum talking about making notes while playing through the game. While I agree this is useful, I can't help but be reminded of how writing notes on the map was useful in SS2.

Yeah... I used to write notes on my map markers a lot in SS2! It's hugely useful, especially in a game like this where I do stuff like stash excess items in crates for later.

Having to write down notes in meatspace does slightly break immersion.

While not the solution you're looking for, if you use the Steam beta client there is a note feature when you pull up the overlay. That's what I've been using in the meantime

Thank you, I'll check that out.

Woh, Steam have finally got a notes feature? I've been wanting them to add one for years!

Yep, the overlay even seems to save the webpages you're on even after you quit the game. Super handy if you have a walkthrough up.

Hell, even the original System Shock 1 allowed you to make map notes, which were also visible and readable as wireframe objects in first person view.

Oh that is niffty.....
I've been using friends as notepads so I don't have to alt tab to my desktop to hold up a bright white notepad.

I thought it could, but as I was writing my post my brain said "wait, do you remember this in SS:E? or are you thinking of SS2?"

Why didn't they add this basic but extremely useful feature? :steamfacepalm:

I saw this on a playthrough recently so it's kind of a step backwards to have only one type of unnamed map marker for the player in the remake.

Being able to draw and write your own little things on maps is a feature i've wanted in pretty much all my exploration games since the last game I played that had it a decade ago (I think one of the Zelda DS games... Phantom Hourglass maybe?).
Wait a moment.

You can write your own notes in SS2?!

I have been playing the game yearly since it came out and i never knew this!

Good Morning

Yeah, such a cool feature back from 90's
I kinda miss it nowadays but in the same time - nah

I really want this feature too! I always put custom note markers all over the maps in both System Shock 1 and 2. It was extremely handy.

It also really bothers me that the custom markers in the remake are labeled as "Messages" in the map legend, which you can enable or disable, yet you can't write custom message text. I really hope they implement this feature and soon.

Same, I hope they're already working on it. Besides bugfixes and polishing up some rough edges, it's really the only feature they miss to make the game truly complete.
