In the original, it shuts off enemy spawns and some traps, some doors open, and SHODAN gets mad at you.

I had that happen with CPU nodes at 4% security level.

In the OG, there's a not quite secret early game magnum pistol in an armory you can only enter after you bring security to 0% (not very well hidden by 'hidden' doors that are tied to sec status). I'd imagine they'll have fleshed out the system a lot for the remake.

there was a hidden magnum in the medical demo that you can access after getting the level to 0. not sure if it's in the full release.

Some secrets require 0% security level.
You can get the magnum on medical this way.

ok, well, nobody seems to be able to tell where the Magnum is in medical and I can't find it

It unlocks a secret door and there will be a reward inside, but it will be invisible, you have to touch the walls until you find it.

Here's an image of where it is on the map.
The door is invisible, just looks like normal wall. But if you click on it, it will open up and you can get the secret room.

It's in the large-ish room before the radiation pits, where you get ambushed by a mantis and a bunch of mutants. The secret door looks just like regular wall panelling, and it's on the eastern wall.
