Is this game like bioshock?

Bioshock was heavily influenced by System Shock. So yes, it is.

Bioshock has its roots in Systemshock; in other words, Systemshock is the game that is the ancestor of Bioshock.

If it weren't for Systemshock, there wouldn't be a game called Bioshock.

There are similarities, but Bioshock is a lot more linear. System Shock has a lot of backtracking and no hand holding.

System shock 1 was made by looking glass studios. Some looking glass studios devs formed their own studio, irrational games. Irrational games helped looking glass studios develop system shock 2. Irrational games then made bioshock between 2002-2007 (2002 was when a pitch demo for the original xbox was made using ue2).

this is more akin to a dungeon crawler mixed with immersive sim (a genre it basically created), not an action fps-rpg. the remake is extremely true to the original, which may alienate some players.
