Too tired to continue.
I'll preface this with the fact that I think this is a good game and a pretty alright remake and in another universe I probably would call it my favorite game of the 2020s.

But I'm tired and this game is making me depressed.

I got through L1 pretty easy, didn't miss anything, was having a lot of fun because I liked the feeling that if I just paid attention I'd eventually figure it out.

Got through L2 and was feeling kind of fatigued when returning to it, but felt okay enough I suppose. Seemed like I was progressing.

Reached L3 and realized that I didn't know where to go, what to do, what I'd missed, why I couldn't do anything.
Ran back through L2 and L1 and lost tons of resources and couldn't figure it out.

Checked every log I had and most of them seemed entirely useless to me.

Nearly cried when I went to look it up because I felt so distressed and stupid, and then did genuinely start to tear up from exhaustion upon realizing that I had missed something on L2 that I didn't find when checking every single part of the map, using markers, taking notes, checking logs etc.

I don't know how I could have conceivably found this thing, none of the audio logs hinted at it that I found, I suppose I might have missed a data stick.

It's exhausting. It truly exhausted me, and I don't want to go back because I'm low on resources since I'd been banking on the idea that I'd get more through progression.

I don't want to do it. I'm tired and defeated and every single part of me that was enjoying the game is dead because I cannot possibly focus enough to waste possibly hours of my time trying to backtrack and make sure I didn't miss tons of other stuff, knowing that *I ALREADY WENT BACK AND CHECKED AND DIDN'T EVEN FIND IT* so I can't trust that I'll ever know what to do or that I'll figure anything out.

Game is good, actually ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ amazing.

I hate it and never want to play it again and I wish I was never born because it makes me feel useless and stupid and like I should be dead.

Most emotionally draining experience I've had in a while.

Edit:

I might restart. It's just tiring. I checked all my logs and never had the audio log that referenced the place I needed to be, which I am not stating because I didn't feel like putting spoilers in a discussion.

I'll probably restart but not soon.

As for the "You're stupid and the game is easy and you're an entitled child" comments, you're all adult manchildren who took the time out of your day to be cruel to someone you don't know to make a point that self-invalidates by its whining nature.

I have more patience than most of you, from experience, but I don't tend to have that patience come as easily to me when playing video games which have no actual reward outside of the experience itself.

I read the terms and service of games before I play them and find that easier than the actual game in terms of patience, you don't know me from one post lol
---

I'll be able to finish the game next time I play it, most likely, but I am not ready to play another several hours through the areas I already touched. The *ONLY* part of this game that is fun, by its design nature, is exploring the new areas and solving puzzles you haven't already seen the solutions for, and re-playing it seems miserable.

I'm... certainly sorry to hear that. But I think if you look at the logs from the first couple of levels, there is guidance on the things that you need to get and where they need to be used. While you don't say specifically what you missed on Level 2, I'm going to guess that it's the safety override code from the Research Library. In which case, there was more than a hint to pick up, since the log from D'Arcy's medical office tells you to go there and the room is labelled. There is a data stick next to the firing button in Central Control as well, reminding you on where that code is located and letting you know to use it on the reactor level.

While the game doesn't guide you through every step, it does give directives for each thing you need to do with those logs from the crew: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2989188623

@OP I had to restart OG System Shock maybe 3 times before it fully clicked with me way back when. It's a brutal game, but it's fair.

If your run degrades too much, you can always start again. The earlier sections will be a breeze and you'll have the resources and knowledge to bridge the gap and find the solution with a clear head.

It's a good game, and worth sticking with, so don't feel too disheartened - it's sadistic and confusing, but all of the information to solve its riddles is there, you just need to take your time and gather the clues.

Then just refund if you can, my guy. It's just not for you, and that's it.

Alternatively, you could wait for them to fix waypoints on the lowest mission difficulty.

Also sense around can be used to scan for audio logs and ammo for low energy cost.

Make sure to use it so you much less likely miss stuff.

With the OP on this one
Game is great, but exhausting as hell
And in the end - it just flips you off, no satisfaction
At all

If it helps, remember you can place markers on the map. I used that when i wasn't ready tp pick up a certain item. It's a lot easier when all you have to remember is which level it's on.

And for that it helps to have a notepad to make notes in this game. Most games these days aren't like that, so it's understandable to be frustrated.

Also this is a remake of an older game that had a pretty confusing level design and they did sorta try and translate some of that into the remake.

There is actually an audio log in the game where a character more or less says "Wtf did they decide this station in the most stressful way imaginable?"

What satisfaction did you expect? We disabled Shodans ethical subsystems and it´s our fault that everyone is dead. And if the fight versus Shodan did not satisfy you, we mostly disabled her with the isolinear chipset, the fight is more or less just a mandatory event. No heroes here.

just be patient and explore the map. Exploration is key

Had similar experience. Cleared 1 or 2 levels, others missing something which I suspect is what's blocking me from getting the code to open the thing. It takes a while even to run through all levels without paying attention to what's around you and actively looking for missed stuff takes ages.
I would loved the game 25 years ago, but now don't have that much time.
Spending free evening time to find nothing and end up frustrated and mentally drained doesn't feel good at all.

Agree with OP - game is great. but it can be hard to enjoy it. Decided to take a break from it some time ago and not sure I will return to it.

I guess SHODAN won... unless you may want to try again. This time, once you find the Sensor, use it to locate all items in your proximity. And decrease the difficulty in order to allow the game to give you hints and markers.

You're much better off investing the time and energy in a brilliant game like Prey or System Shock 2.

This game isn't even remotely rewarding or satisfying and the ending is an absolute joke.
