Screen in library broken - am I screwed?
So for whatever reason I decided to smack the monitor in the library that the reactor code is supposed to appear on after entering cyberspace. As a result, the monitor was never able to turn on so I didn't get the code.

Is there ANY other way to get the code / is there a way to fix that monitor aside from brute forcing (because that sounds like a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ nightmare with 999 combinations)? I'm gonna be livid if the solution is starting over.

There's two monitors in that room somewhat opposite of each other. Even if you smack one, the other should be visible.

The next patch is also fixing this particular hilarity.

"Ah, if it isn't the consequences of my own actions"

But yes, they probably should have been indestructible from the start.

Edit:

The good news is, starting over won't take too long. Maybe an hour, two hours tops (perhaps more if you cleared some of the higher levels?) since you already know where you are and what you're doing - plus you'll be better prepared and equipped!

Aight I'm shelving this game till that patch comes out. Was enjoying it till now, so this is really unfortunate. I don't want to start over, not after all the time put in already.

You don't have an earlier save or something?

Just out of curiosity, what levels have you explored?

Medical, Flight Deck, Maintenance, Research, and Reactor. Basically doing as much as I could on each. Problem with loading earlier saves is I don’t remember when I did what and probably destroyed multiple monitors I need.

Also my game doesn’t let me select more than one save for some reason. Just constantly overwriting the same save

Manual saves shouldn't over-write, but auto and quick saves do only have one each.

Yeah jeeze, you basically did everything up until that point, hey? That sucks.

I still think restarting isn't that bad of an option. It's not as if you need to pay super close attention to the logs for the objectives that you know how to complete, it's surprising how quickly you can clear a level once you know the basic layout.

I've played through the game twice, and on my third run now. It's very replay-able. That's not including a couple of my own restarts.

Just keep that trigger finger well-disciplined :). Alternately, hopefully the patch is out soon and the screen magically repairs its-self.

Okay I started over and you're right. It's so much easier this time through. I feel like I was so wasteful and disorganized on my first try.

Yeah, a bit of knowledge goes a long way! A small organisation tip, is if you find yourself running out of inventory space or just need somewhere to store stuff that you think you might need later, the crates outside the large Maintenance freight elevator are pretty convenient.

Good luck!

For someone whos going to stumble on this post and doesn't want to start again. I solved this problem by downloading cheat engine, then this table for it "SystemReShock-Win64-Shipping.CT" (search it up, I'm pretty sure link going to be blocked) then booted up System Shock, went into debug mode through console and sure there was a code behind the broken screen.
P.S. I accumulated ♥♥♥♥ ton of guns and upgrades for them, I almost treat them like my babies how are you gonna expect me to throw them all away and start again.
P.P.S Operating in Cheat Engine
1) Boot up cheat engine
2) Ctrl + O, or press on folder icon
3) Select downloaded "SystemReShock-Win64-Shipping.CT"
4) Boot System Shock and in Cheat Engine press on monitor icon in upper left corner
5) Select your system shock process
6) In bottom check "enable Steam 1.0"
7) Check "create console"
8) Open System Shock by pressing "~" and type ToggleDebugCamera, navigate by using WASD and your cursor

I mean you can just input 1-9 into the sequence until you give the correct code later

Yeah... that's only 10³ possibilities...

This is a rather funny mistake, on release none of the screens were destructible. People complained that screens should be destructible, so in the first patch all screens are destructible. Good intentions not thought out. The correct thing to do is make most screens destructible but make critical screens indestructible.

When I tested it a few weeks ago, all the critical screens were indestructible except the one for the reactor code mentioned here, in the library on Research. The terminals with the self-destruct code parts and the 4 screens on Executive with the maintenance tunnel access code are all indestructible. It's probably an oversight.

About brute forcing the code, it's nice that the keypads in this game will take number pad input. It's not as bad as if you had to click on the buttons. But on the downside, the keypads blink ERR and make you wait briefly before letting you try the next code. It takes about 3 seconds to enter each one and wait out the error, so 50 minutes or so to test all of them, or about 25 minutes on average.

I didn't feel like dealing with that kind of tedium, especially if it were to have ended up on the higher end.

Honestly I was probably better off starting over anyway - gave me a chance to more responsibly use my resources. I beat the game about a week ago.
