System Shock Remake won't launch on Linux
Hi. First time ever posting on a steam related thing.. just because I have been in Love with System Shock 1 + 2 my whole life. I'm trying to run it on Linux, and when I press Play, nothing at all happens, other than the button going back to it's "Play" state.

I tried hitting that "Force the use of a specific steam compatibility tool" and choosing both proton experimental and proton 8.0-2. Has anyone successfully ran this on Linux ( besides the steamdeck ).

Sorry if I'm missing something obvious. The game does launch if I boot into Windows. I just don't use Windows, for anything, at work or at home.

I have played it on Linux without problems for >30hrs. I recently upgraded my PC and reinstalled Ubuntu and Steam and had problems launching the game. I had both compatibility options in Steam enabled and when attempting to start the game, it would just be stuck in Steam on "Launching...". I tried using a particular Proton version and also disabling the "Enable Steam Play for all other titles" option. Now, in Steam, the game would indicate like it's launching for a second but then nothing would happen.
I ended up re-installing the game and somehow, after setting the compatibility option of the game (not the Steam global setting) to using Proton Experimental, it launched without issues...

It's been working well for me so far in Arch Linux and Nvidia. You might want to check your journalctl and see if there's any error messages when you launch the game. Most likely you're just simply missing some libraries.

I couldn't hold back and just installed it in on a windows game just to play it. But I'll try this for the next run through. Thanks.

The OP has probably either solved this or refunded the game, but in case anyone else comes across this.... I had the same problem, and it was fixed by forcing Proton 6.3-8. A bit unexpected it works with what is by now an ancient (1½ years, lol) version of Proton, but it does. EDIT: just realized the OP had posted a couple of days ago...

did but sadly the same, but it works good with 4.11, some lags but they are manageble

Weird. If it works on 4.11 and not newer versions, that's definitely something to report. Iirc that'd be reported via the proton github.
