Beta Grove
Completed the first two groves and finally entered Beta... oh boy. Gotta say, wandering around trying to fully explore & figure out what to do/where to go while constantly having to pop batteries & patches is not exactly fun. Even with the lvl 1 envirosuit thing. Perhaps it's the constant sizzling noise sounding like sanity on fire 😅

I've enjoyed the game up to this point quite a bit, the nostalgia from being absolutely terrified playing the original ages ago on my dad's lap as a whee lad has been quite fulfilling. But this part is rough. Any tips? I want to get thru it quick, but also not miss any cool story elements or gear.

I ran thru most of the level and got on top heading towards the energy charger I could see on the map but not find below before dying abruptly because my battery ran out and remaining life evaporated before I could pop a patch or kit... making me realize in my mad dash thru the place I had forgotten to quick save at all.

That grove isn't for exploring. Get in, destroy cameras, turn the jettison switch, then get out.
Make use of your powered boots to get around quickly.

Seems to me thats exactly where sadistic developers would hide something cool. No?

I've got enough patches and a fair amount of batteries saved up. Kinda sucks not being able to savor the environment, but if there's nothing else to be found thats good to know.

Turn on your radar sensory thing to reveal pickups on your map then fly about. You won't find much.
In the original game there was a level 3 hardware upgrade, but it doesn't exist in the remake.

At least it's a quick area (very much by necessity) so forgetting to quicksave is minimal loss. I got cooked in there the first time too, then learned my lesson and was a lot quicker to explore and a lot more cautious in topping up my health and energy.

Such is old school gaming, it won't hold your hand and it is more than possible to fail completely by not being good enough.

You can complete beta grove in about 2 minutes, if you get into Storage #6 on storage level. Good luck.

I just did beta grove - whilst it was a shame I wasn't able to take my time hoovering up and vaporising everything that wasn't nailed down, I didn't mind it so much - that said, I had already done the two others prior which kinda had me in a rhythm of what to do & expect in there.

I basically speedran to turn on the bridge and then get to the grove eject switch, hoping i'd find a recharge point along the way (there was one right before going to beta - so you should almost certainly be going with full battery). I had two batteries on me which I coulda used in an emergency but I managed, I also had a buncha fire shotgun shells and had capped my magnum ammo stack, so I kinda melted the enemies in there too lol.

Having now jettisoned beta grove & cleared them all, i'm kinda surprised how much people have been complaining about it & the (optional?) chess game. Maybe its just due to whatever difficulty people are on but I didn't find them bad at all - I actually really enjoyed the chess game, hit me right in the nostalgia of my Grandad teaching and playing me :')

I imagine if you go to beta first, with no grove experience, no rad suit / battery (somehow) then it must be rough, but I imagine such players have either been unlucky or bent over backwards to make it hard for themselves lol.

The V2 boots and some planning can make Beta grove pretty easy to deal with. You can go straight for the interlocks and be done very quickly, or use the boots and do a counterclockwise loop around the grove to take security to 0% in around 3 minutes.

In a recent run I just hit the interlocks before getting the enviropack, then came back to take out all the cameras just before the final eject, which took 2:49. You can see that route here: https://youtu.be/g5l6aobqncM?t=1503

Edit: Oh, it doesn't link the time portion? Wonderful. Starts at 25:03.
