the chess game in system shock is beyond annoying

it literally took me probably 100 tries to win...the only advice i can give is to lose your first random match so that it lines up the board like a real chess match

then make sure you go to the red side and hit the switch on that side so your playing on the red team...after that go over to https://chess-bot.com/online_calculator/next_best_move.html and make sure u switch the king to the queens spot and the queen to the kings spot on both sides of the board to mimic the board in the game

please for the love of god do not forget to switch the queen and kings places on the website or it will not give u the right moves to win and youll be at it all day like i was

next mimic the green sides first move on that website before you click calculate position...then just follow each move slowly and u should win the first time...the fact that the king and queens location on the chessboard in the game is different than the places they are posted on that website is why this took me over 100 tries and 7 hours of my day to win

the reward is a pocket dimension inventory upgrade which adds 6 more slots to your inventory so its defintely worth the aggrevation...if u take my advice and follow the steps i have provided u can bypass the 7 hours i wasted today trying to win against this rediculously smart ai chess player aka SHODAN and her evil ways lmao

It also tells you which piece is which when you target them. Look at the top of the screen.

I honestly didn't notice at first either. I so rarely looked at the targeting bar.

The way this works is *initially* you get a random "puzzle" setup. if you botch this game then you get a regular match from the start.

Pick your poison tbh. This unlocks a really handy item but it's if you want to do it fast (solve the logic puzzle, or use movement computer) or slow but precise (regular game)

The endgame problem is usually faster to solve. It helps if you can set it up on a real chess board for visualization.

I also found that dimension upgrade elsewhere in either that level or somewhere else, I do not remember where. I did not want to take the time to do the chess puzzle.

There are two pocket dimension upgrades. Each one adds 1x6 to your inventory size.

One is in Storage, the other behind the chess puzzle. You can certainly skip the puzzle, unless you want the achievement.
