Anno 2070

Anno 2070

Performance issues?
I own a Lenovo Y580 laptop that has an NVIDIA GTX660M GPU, Intel Core i7 Sadny Bridge 3610QM CPU, and 8GB of RAM and from what I understand this configuration far exceeds the recommended requirements. Yet, for some reason I play this game and I'm getting horrible framerates. I have my graphics set to low and even on 720p resolution I get lower than 30 FPS (about 25 so not much lower, but still low enough that it's a concern).

Don't even get me started on Medium-high settings. The game is nearly unplayable there. Is there a reason I'm getting such bad frame rates? I looked online and noticed some people with worse laptops than mine not having any issues like this so I'm curious as to what it might be.

All my drivers are up to date, I can play high and max settings i games that are even more demanding, like Battlefield 3 on a mix of very high-ultra settings with a constant 30+ FPS, so I refuse to believe my computer can't handle Anno 2070. Any idea what might be going on here?

You're playing vidya on a laptop you pleb, you can't expect 100% good results from it from every game.

I refuse to accept the "you're on a laptop, so deal with it" response. Just because I'm gaming on a laptop doesn't mean I should accept crap. Would it have been any different if I'd said I was gaming on a desktop with comparable specs? No.

I know my hardware isn't a triple SLI 6.5GHz octo-core 32GB RAM beast, but I know I should be able to run this game at decent settings without fail. Stop patronizing me. If you're going to offer actual help it would be much appreciated. Otherwise, buzz off.

Thanks @ JoxerNL. Not at PC right now but I'll be sure to post that up here in due time. FYI, small error in my original post: the 3610QM is an Ivy Bridge, not a Sandy Bridge.

Also, I suspect something might have gone wrong in my installation of Windows 8 that is preventing my power management drivers from being effective. I never realized it could have been a Windows 8 problem so I'm going to try a couple of things once I get home. I'll update you guys on what I find just for the sake of having something informative for others who might eventually be in the same boat as me.

Depends on the person. This is the type of game that will throw you in without mercy and it could feel very overwhelming; however, once you grasp the gist of it, you will understand why it is probably one of the best city-builder simulations of this generation.

Unfortunately, it hasn't had a lot of rep on it to be popular with the general crowd (might be too difficult for a general audience). However, in my opinion, it is definitely worth getting even at its full price.

Thats pathetic. There are people who live on the road. However, OP's answer is that Laptops underclock when power is not absolutely needed. Also, ANNO's requirements are higher than BF3. I too can play BF3 on Ultra, but ANNO only runs on Medium with a few High settings.

I'm running ANNO 2070 on high with no issues whatso ever and i'm running it on an i3 laptop (Aspire 5742G). Run's pretty smooth for me

I have the above components in my Toshiba laptop and with NVidia 640m card and intel hd 4000 graphics ' Anno 2070 is running sweet as on highest graphics settings / no slow down issues ;-)

I have the exact same laptop as you, the Y580, and I'm able to play on high to ultra settings. So it's probably not a hardware issue. As the others suggested, look around the forums and consider contacting support if you need to. The only thing I can think of is that I believe the Y580 has 2 graphics card, the GTX 660m for the heavy lifting and an Intel HD 4000 for when you're not gaming. Is it somehow possible your computer doesn't switch to the 660m when you start up Anno? Like I said, I haven't had the same problem as you. If you want to compare settings or whatever we can, if that would help.

Have you tried a clean boot? In most cases a PC with required hardware lags because of windows and/or apps running in background. Also, go into your power managment and make sure your running in performance mode and not power saving. Since that will underclock your card.

Thanks to all you guys for the great suggestions and help (I knew it couldn't just be the fact that I was on a laptop). It turns out the Windows 8 version of the Lenovo power management drivers are very buggy and it wasn't putting me into Dynamic Graphics mode when it should have. I ended up installing the Windows 7 versions of the drivers and now Anno 2070 is running much better. Go figure, lol. Hopefully lenovo comes out with a fix. But there was my issue just in case anyone runs into anything similar and will need to search this post up in the future.
