Walkthroughs/Guides
Hey everyone. I just finished writing a walkthrough for the Single Mission "Free Market Economy" (link below), and was wondering... Would people like to see other guides like it? This one took me a fair bit of time to make, so I won't be doing one for every mission (As I need to beat it twice - once to get it right, second to do it for the guide without screw ups), but I was wondering if people want guides for certain things.

Here's a list of the missions and what I will, won't, and might do:

Single Missions
  • The Jorgenson Plateau (No. Way too easy. Just play normally and you'll win)
  • Architect of the Future (No. As above)
  • Free Market Economy (Just done, link below)
  • Power Games (Possible, haven't played yet)
  • Black Gold (No. Multiplayer-related, too hard to do a real guide)
  • Whatever it Takes (No. As above)
  • Return to C.O.R.E. (Possible, haven't played yet)

Bonus Missions
  • Ghost Hunter (This is rather easy, but I could..)
  • New development (Possible, haven't played yet)
  • The long way there (Ditto)
  • Final spurt (Ditto)

On top of those, I can also do the Global Events when they happen, maybe. I will not do the campaign, and I don't have Deep Ocean, so I can't play those missions.

Still, let me know what you think.

EDIT: Name change due to current subject in my last post.

Current projects:
  • "Eden Project" Global Event
  • "Tips, Tricks, Exploits and Information" Guide

Nice guide, simple and to the point! Good job!!

Cheers man. It's a little on the long side, but in my opinion, if you can't be bothered to read a guide that long, you don't have the patience to play Anno 2070 properly, haha.

I did joke about making a TL;DR video for it where I just show screenshots and shout "SETTLE HERE! BUILD THIS! DON'T DO THIS!" and so on xD

Bump:

Would like more people's opinions .-.

Question:
I might have missed it, but do you explain to your readers how to deny ascension rights to citizens? You say at some point "Do not upgrade yet", but I was thinking that it is a fairly easy map, so people needing a walkthrough for it, may not have figured out that they can have citizens on manual upgrade.

No I didn't, I totally missed that. It's something I've known how to do since I started 1404, so to me, it's "Common Knowledge". Thanks for pointing that out. I'll get onto that and add it to the "EXTRAS" in an update either tomorrow or the day after.

Also, it can be a bit of a tricky mission if you aren't skilled in financial and trade management, so yeah...

Are there any other missions you think I should make a guide on? :3

I found Power Games the hardest. Got killed by Keno many, many times before I worked out how to defend myself, then the same with Thor. Good times :) That might be a good one to try.

Agreed. I have heard it can be a VERY lengthy mission, though, so that could take a few attempts to make a fool-proof guide (or relatively foolproof anyway), and I don't have the time right now. That's also one I'd attempt to make a guide for both factions.

Still, it's definitely up my list of things to do for this game, and I'll be sure to make a guide when I do play it.

.. Also, for the record, I plan to play it without exploiting bugs. They'll be mentioned in the guide, but when I make the guide, I'll avoid using them myself, so I can deal with all of the factors that non-exploiters would have to, to make a better guide.

Regarding this (again)... I might actually just create a "Common Tricks" guide, with things like how to ge the fast forward shortcut button, denying ascention rights, hotkey "saving" squads for quick selection, and so on. That way, I can link it from all of my future guides, instead of stating how to do it all over and over in every one I make.

Good idea

If I'm not busy tonight, I'll begin work on that "Common Tricks" guide tonight. Anyone got suggestions for what to put in it? Current List:

  • Fast Forward/Slow Down shortcut
  • Denying ascention rights/Manual Upgrading
  • How to activate right-click menu and two bars at the bottom of the screen
  • Roads don't need coverage to count
  • "Ignorant AI" exploit (never discover them)

I know I'm missing other things, so suggestions would help.

Denying certain goods to population.
Using drills etc to increase resources on an island.
Influence areas of production buidlings so they pick up raw materials themselves and don't need to pick them up from warehouses.
Politics button on the ARK.

I am sure there is more that could be mentioned...

All of those, I totally forgot about, thanks. And yeah, there's tons of things that COULD be listed. It all depends on your opinion of what is a "Trick" and what should be "common knowledge" from the very beginning. As I have 1404 experience and know a lot of things already, I overlook a lot of things because they're just a stanard bit of Anno life for me.

It took me 100 hours or so to try out the resource drills for some reason. By that time I had given up on mission 3 Eden Formers because I had run out of copper... What a waste of a perfectly good playthrough :)

Just posting again to say that I am now working on a walkthrough for the Eden Project Global Event. I have done two of the three missions, but sadly, I don't think I'll be able to get it up until after the event finishes. Still, it'll be handy for future use, I suppose. For the next event, I'll try to get the event finished and the guide up within the first week or so.

EDIT: I am also working on the "Common Tricks" guide, under the name of "Tips, Tricks, Exploits and Information". Right now, I'm just adding all the stuff to it in categories, with no details, then I'll be adding screenshots and other information for each thing as I develop it. It's not high on my list right now, due to the Global Event, but it's under work now.

EDIT2: Changed the name of the "Common Tricks" guide to what it now says. I will be going in depth on various "general information" subjects, such as Global Events, the way Politics works, the dynamics of each AI character, and so on. On release, many things will not be 100% complete, like the Global Event information or the AI dynamics, but the main meat of it (the tips, tricks and exploits) will be, and the rest will be well fleshed out. This is turning out to be a really expansive project, haha.... If anyone is willing to volunteer information or suggestions for what to add, I'm open to it.
