Anno 2070

Anno 2070

Just give us on-line features while off-line already
I know I know its Ubisoft wanting to protect their IP, I get it. However this game is now 14 years old. Just give us on-line features while off-line to prevent this server issue that has been ongoing.

If Ubisoft is really going to be protective of their IP and prevent that OTHER BEHAVIOR. Maybe make it so that when ever an online connection is established let the player choose if they want to enable online features while offline for a time. Similar to how web browsers have cookies or web-servers have their security certificates wired. That way it will give players flexibility while also maintaining validity in installations of a users 2070 client.

I'm not sure how you have on-line features while being off-line but I think what you mean is give us off-line features while...you know...off-line. I doubt the reason was to protect their IP so much as it was just stupidity that "ooooo, online cool, let's make it required, gamers will like that".

But your request has no chance of happening. The devs just did a bunch of work on it recently to keep large parts of the game still functioning with new servers and they didn't opt to remove the on-line required bits.

They like the online bit, unfortunately. They always have. We listened to them try to justify the garbage when the game was first released and disagreed with them because we know something like this would be the end result when the servers shut down (no company will keep paying for online servers forever unless it is a game with a monthly fee or there's some other monetization component), but Bluebyte and Ubisoft didn't care. They believe the benefits outweigh the risks, while personally I feel they need to be introduced to a clue-by-4.

Yes, it's nice having Ark storage that I put in 7 years ago and formatted my computer 3 times since and still have it there, but considering I spent more then a month waiting for Ark storage to even work (along with multiple other features), it's still not exactly something I'd consider a benefit myself.

At any rate, there is data for each account saved online, and rewriting parts of the game so it first gets moved locally, and then that information gets stored offline permanently from now on would take development costs that need to be budgeted and funded.

It's highly unlikely Ubisoft is going to allocate resources to updating a 14 year old game, especially when they've shown they really don't give a frack about the bad publicity or bad public sentiment that comes from having one of your games broken for more than a month.

The deal is, if they made it so every now and then you'd have to "Sync" with their servers to obtain a file or hash of sorts detailing your exact progress in ark research and modules. That would be great, make it valid for only a limited time. Maybe a month or two. Sure, you wouldnt be able to play with others but you'd be able to play it offline with your upgrades and ark modules available. Issue is, you couldnt use NEW ones you create.
