Chapter 3 Mission 2 completely broken?!

So I haven't played the game to it's end before, and decided to install again and try to finish it (since it is pretty darn good for what it is). I pick up from where I had left off, in chapter 3 (In the eye of the storm) mission 2..... I get no ship at the start of the mission, the ship I buy has no resources, I can only buy brick OR machinery not both due to lack of funds AND the NPC's don't want to trade.....WTF?!

I have tried to Google for a solution but haven't found one. Does anyone know what I might be missing here? Or if this is really where the game just ends?

The missions in the campaign carry over your progress from one mission to the next - all the buildings and goods (and I think units) you build in one mission will be retained in the next mission. It's been a while since I've played any of those missions, but if you're starting off with no materials, it may be because you don't have a saveworld for the first mission. If you replay the first one you should be able to progress.

Seems like a pretty major flaw in the state machine to me. I'll check it out, thx for the hint.
