Anno 2070

Anno 2070

Uninstalled. Again.
I think I installed this in January after purchasing it in a sale. Played for a bit, but wasn't really in the right mindset, so I removed it. Last night I tried to install it again. It asks for an activation code; I enter the one supplied by Steam; "In use by another user".

I cancelled that window and tried logging in directly with my Uplay account; "Username or password invalid". This is in spite of the fact that the same username and password logs me into the Uplay client just fine. I tried various things, uninstalled and reinstalled, looked for answers online, tried the Anno Offline option....nothing. All of this took about 2 hours total of my time.

Result; the game is uninstalled, again, until such a time as I can just click on the executable and play it. This installation routine...it hopefully cost someone their job.

Looks like it's tied to a different Uplay account (yours). Sure you didn't use another email back in January?
Nivek Ogre Jun 21, 2014 @ 10:28am
Yeah, I thought of that....so I tried an alternate e-mail account, and it did in fact turn up a 2nd Uplay account. Unfortunately, the same thing happened. "Key already in use...". And I know, for a fact, that it couldn;t be under a THIRD e-mail account because that would be my home account, which I never, ever use for games. I have no other hotmail accounts, no gmail or yahoo or whatever.

Worth noting; I also find it odd that I can sign into the Uplay client fine with either e-mail and password combo, but when the actual game asks me to login (after clicking "Cancel" on the serial # prompt), it won;t accept the e-mail and pass that I just used to sign into Uplay.

Yeah looks like something got messed up xd

Try contacting Support, it shouldn't take too long, my experience at least.

Hint: If you download Uplay from the website, and enter the cd key to "Activate Product", you should see Anno in your games library in Uplay. At least it should xd

Contact Ubisoft Support.

If they don't want to help you immediately just keep pushing. As long as you're polite and reasonable with them then I see no reason why they wouldn't solve your problem.

I'm writing with experience--I had a similar problem. For various reasons, my key for Anno 2070 was no longer associated with an account. In the end, they gave me a new key.

When I first instaoled it last night, I was asked after logging into Uplay if I wanted to associate Anno 2070 with my account. I clicked yes, the game launched....and prompted me for an activation code (with "No Solid Shield" or somesuch in the field). If I cancelled the serial # window and tried to login, my username and pass were rejected by the game (but not by Uplay). If I tried inserting the key from Steam into the serial # field, it said it was already in use. Blech!!!

Just tried uninstalling Uplay (which was installed by Steam during the Anno installation), then downloading it from the Uplay website and installing, then installing the game from Steam again. Same result; key in use by another user, and neither of the accounts which can login to the Uplay client are accepted by the game login.

What's truly annoying is that the game asks me to associate it to my account when I login after a clean install. I select yes, and the game tells me it was successful. I can see it in my game list (it's the only Ubi game I own). Yet when I launch it....same ♥♥♥♥♥, key in use blahblahblah

Right. I had a similar problem. Unfortunately, you're dealing with three layers of DRM: Steam, Uplay, and Tages. That means it's entirely possible to have the game show up in both libraries and still not be 'activated'.

It's a real mess, and it's probably not something the end user can fix. That's why you should be contacting Ubisoft Support.

=-\

I think I'll just uninstall it again and give it away to a friend. I don't like messing around with my PC games that much, especially this one; never relly played it since January (17 minutes total) and I've already spent hours trying to get it to work.

Thanks for the input all, but Anno 2070 is officially dead to me. =)

Support can fix your problem. You know, if you want. They gave me a new key for the Complete Edition when I couldn't activate mine.

Also, you can't give away Steam games--and even if you could, wouldn't you just be passing along the problem?

I might be passing it along to someone who's more interested in doing all the legwork than I am. I've got 137 or so games in my list and most of them I haven't finished. Time not spent on Anno will be spent on something else, that's all. Agfain though...I appreciate all the help. I guess it just was not meant to be between Anno and myself. :)

I like how you are ignoring his advice and talking about how you will just give up. Must not want to play the game that badly, eh?
Nivek Ogre Jun 22, 2014 @ 10:31am
I didin't ignore his advice; I took it into account and said "Thanks but no, not for me at this point". This isn't an Internet Argument about who's the strongest, Hulk or Superman, where There Can Be Only One; his advice is perfectly valid, and my response (I've already spent hours troubleshooting this and I have other games to play) is just as valid. I'd rather spend my free time playing my working games than trying yet again to get this one running. I even thanked him and others for all their help.

But hey, you sure scored ...er...."points"...over me with your helpful, drenched-in-originality retort. You "win". Enjoy your prize. Sheesh.

The thing is it seems like one or several (lol) of your Uplay accounts are messed up and if you ever want to play another Uplay game, you will just be in the same situation likely...

Whereas you could contact Support for free, wait a bit, and have the best strategy/sim game out there working xd
Doomcock Jun 25, 2014 @ 9:38am
I had a similar problem where I start up the game but nothing happens I hit the play game button the the damn game wont start and it really pisses me off because everyone says this is one of the best rts,sim games they have ever played. Im gonna try to fix it but if it doesn't work this last time then Im done
