Because you haven't given any specific context besides you liking Anno 1404 and not being able to decide between 2070 and 2205 after seeing videos of them, I am going to have to conclude that you are not the type to hate Anno 2205 for not feeling like a classical Anno game.
Therefore:
Anno 2205- Has more quality of life gameplay functions than Anno 2070 like being able to move buildings into better placement without having to destroy and rebuild them, Supply and demand are calculated into a clear number you can follow across entire islands, trading is only manually managed by you between sectors/maps instead of the individual islands.
- combat is completely seperate from the main gameplay.
- You are the only player/faction in all of the maps you play in, meaning the only enemies that you need to deal with are only available in raiding parties or in the mission section.
Anno 2070 has, arguable, more meaningful Ornaments for you to place down and beautify your city. Along with a trade economy supply mechanic that's more in line with Anno 1404. However: Anno 2070 has been having many users report problems with logging into the servers in order to be able to play the game, so you're taking a chance on whether or not you will be able to play Anno 2070 in the first place.
So: shrug.
I have read the discussions on both games and, like you said, logging hith Uplay semms to be a problem in Anno 1404, so I will not take the gess I think.
Thank you, really helpfull ;)
In Anno 2070 i like the gameplay mechanic of power and eco balance. It keeps you on your toes and there is alot of improvements while progressing a play"through".
You should check out the mod "Anno 2170 A.R.R.C." It is a major overhaul, with new produciton chains, massive expanded labratory and acadamie projects and more.
It can easy be de-installed if not to your liking.
So I'd recommend Anno 2070 (and later, if you wish, Anno 1800 for a new pinnacle in th series).
As for difficulties with logging in: These are easily resolved if you simply install uPlay Connect launcher from ubi.com. This problem is just that their old launcher included within the game files on Steam doesn't work anymore but will easily hook into the new launcher that provides the hooks needed for compatibility.
An extra step, yes, but it's worth it in my opinion.
1800 is a beautiful game though, I love it.
It rebalances quite a lot, introduces some new production lines, a ton of new research, projects and items for the tech laboratories. Many new ornamental buildings as well.
Check http://www.anno2170-arrc.de/?language=en for a detailed description.
No new campaign though. The focus of the game always was the free longplay.
