Can't start game (Failed to initialize directx!)

I've played this game for 60 hours without problems, yesterday it was still working.
Today as I try to start I get the error:

Failed to initialize directx

I've already reinstalled both directx and update my nvidia drivers.
Using the integrated intal graphic card the game starts, but obiously it's unplayable.

I've found other similar post, but they're very old / unuseful.

Any help appreciated!

Are you playing using an administrator account?

If so, try disabling your AV program, then try it again.

If this was working fine previously, then maybe a Windows update messed things up? There's been a LOT of Windows 10 updates lately.

It might be worth trying to reinstall the FULL Direct X rather than the 'mini' dxwebsetup one (assuming you haven't already tried that)?

That should be in the Anno 2070 'install' folder, or you can get it from Microsoft of course.
