What I saw in the reviews is that the servers no longer work, and the game features always-online DRM. Whether this is true or not, I'm not sure.
Always online DRM, for what, who doesn't have a internet flatrate in this times?
Its an old game MP is almost empy. (i play only SP)
Crashes no, only the install your have to manuel download something to work.
the game itself, the same as all Annos
2) People with Dish internet (the poor souls) might have so many dropped packages that servers simply drop them.
3) Any DRM is going to give people trying to play the game with Wine/CrossOver/Proton problems.
4) Its annoying.
5) Pirates are just going to strip the DRM anyway.
6) ...you get the point.
Anyway, this is coming off my wish list.
The alternative is use your CD key outside of Steam in Ubisoft launcher. Which is easier to register, but many will not want that if they have the rest of their games in Steam. For most ppl it is also something they read after becoming frustrated :p
EDIT: As for always online DRM for singleplayer. It is simple. There is no benefit here at all for the player, only for the company. If the company's servers are down, you can't play your singleplayer game. So its plain customer unfriendly.
I might see how it online req would be bad if you have horrible connection.. but honestly which game does not use some sort of online requirement these days. Not saying it's a good thing especially for single player games but nothing weird about it to give negative reviews. It patched out perfectly, detected DLC from the complete edition normally. No problems at all.
I had uplay account anyway.. so don't see a problem with that either. Limiting yourself only to Steam or any single market is bad call imho.
TLDR - All works
Go for it dude, the game is really good, and the underwater stuff looks gorgeous as well. The only thing the reviews show, is that too many dumb people have access to keyboards and internet
There is absolute no problem with Ubisoft or Uplay and this game Anno 2070 is no problem at all.
I can play it with no issues
It asks you 3 times the cd key, but "copy to clipboard" option is a time saver, plus already having a uplay account for 1404: Venice, was not a big deal logging on. Installed without issues.
As we said.
