Heroes VI are unplayable on Windows 8

Hi, I just bought this game on sale today with all DLC addons etc. Apparently it crashes on startup, and no matter what I try, it is not launching at all. Reinstalling UPLAY did not give any positive effects, reinstalling the eintire game did not work either.

I am curently stuck with a game that does not work under any conditions, and reinstalling the gmae or the launcher are useless. My drivers are all up to date, but this still is not working at all.

Any ideas ? :(

tried that, and the one above, still get Might & Magic Heroes VI Shades of Darkness has stopped working.
Only game i've ever experienced it with.

Heres another thing to try involving turning off cores used to process the game if its crashing just after startup. Taken from gamefaqs forum:

Now I'll be kind enough to share it with you :)

1. Start the game.
2. Start task manager. (ctrl+alt+del and click task manager or ctrl+shift+escape for immediate acces)
3. Select the game. (It's usually the top one when sorting by memory usage)
4. Right click the game and hover over set priority and click realtime.
5. Right click the game and click on set affinity.
6. Deselect cpu0 and click ok.
7. Enjoy the game.

Uplay works fine, just the game itself does not start after the first loading "picture" (to small to call it a screen :P) shows up. Running it in reverse compatibility does not work, reinstalling Uplay do es not work, running it as admin does ot work, all drivers have been checked like 30 times, but all are the most up to date as possible ...

It's just not working and not starting at all. Every single time I get "Might & Magic Heroes VI has stopped working" and that's it.

my uplay was crashing when i launched the game through steam. here is what i did - unistalled uplay and deleted uplay folder, closed steam, downloaded uplay from main ubisotf site, reinstalled uplay and updated it, clicked on uplay icon and set "run as admin", created new account and i finally was able to launch this game through steam :)

Same problem here. I followed the "reinstall uplay guide" and nothing (I got a new error message then, a "make sure no other games are using uplay" thing, but I bypassed it by setting the game executables to be launched as an admin and... I ended right where I started, with the launch error.)

I'm not going to try reinstalling the game unless someone confirms it solves the problem. It's a bit unacceptable that steam recommends you to "reinstall a game" just to try if it works when it's an operation that takes at least 6 hours!

Ater everything i've found out there so far it seems like the only "working thing" is just to keep reinstalling untill You finally end up with a working game ... and this could take months, so of all that's deffinately not a solution :P

I have the same issue. Running Win8 x64 the game just hangs on a black screen at startup. Sometimes it locks up the whole machine so I have to restart.

Updated drivers, followed the reinstall uplay guide, verified game content, ran in compatibility mode, I've tried all that stuff and nothing works it still just hangs on startup.

This game is unbelievably broken by DRM. I'm amazed that Steam even allowed it in such a state.

SInce most of you have nothing to lose at this point and I can't seem to find anything that may be causing this, you should go to http://www.gamecopyworld.com/ and download the Uplay V2.1.1 DRM Fix and install it. Also you can try the other game fixes on the page and see if those work. There were some reports of using these got the game working so its worth a shot.

What is playable in Windows 8?

most of everything that plays on windows 7 will run fine on windows 8, been running W8 for months now and no issues so far.

the issue seems to be with windows 8 x86(64 bit) most of the x64(32bit) users seem to be able to play i also have this issue.in the debugg txt file in the game folder i found that it is giving "Exception: C0000005" i am guessing this is the error code returned that causes the crash.

most probably this is again a hardware issue, someone mentionned before he experienced the issue on W8 x64 version so it's doubtful it has anything to do with windows 8.

the game is actually a bit demanding on the hardware, especially the graphic card.

everyone having technical issues should list the detail of their hardware config, that would give us something to check out that might point to a solution.
