Question about the AI "cheating"
I'm thinking of buying HoMAM VI: Complete, since GreenManGaming is having a sale right now.

There's one thing keeping me back, though. I've read all over the internet that the AI is a bit of a cheating bastard, periodically gaining units to a point where you suddenly cannot hope to defeat them if you drag the game out too long.
Since I've always prefered fighting the AI in the Heroes series, I wanted to ask if that has changed over the course of patching or if it's still there, because that would be a bit of a deal breaker for me.

Well, """periodically gaining units to a point where you suddenly cannot hope to defeat them if you drag the game out too long.""" only if your a brand new player unaware of game mechanics, skills and such. When you played for a bit you would actually enjoy AI unit respawn since it gives you a pretty good challange, especially on higher difficalties.

Ai has this thing, where if you where to beat its main hero and all his army, next week he will respawn with a very large army allowing it too keep up with player who generaly never looses any units through out the battles XD...it was kinda nerfed with patches but in reality, if you beat the AI hero first time, you wouldnt have much of a trouble doing it again,

But player gets rediculous advantages due to dynasty anyways, OP dynasty weapons, traits and other stuff, wish they gave us a way to play against customised AI's using he heroes you created your self :/

Thanks for the info, mate. Won't be buying it, then. :d2rubick:
Yeah, avoid this ♥♥♥♥♥, its cheating AI completely sucks any fun out of this worthless title. I remember when this game used to be fun, before Ubisuck got their hands on it.

the 5 was good and its was Ubisoft under it

But yeah it,s suck when the AI is UBER powerful

The AI isn't "cheating," It should almost never be more powerful then your army unless it's scripted as such.

If you're having trouble beating the AI or understanding the game mechanics in general, this website: http://www.celestialheavens.com/viewpage.php?id=119 has a complete walkthrough for every campaign and playstyle.

Once you get the hang of it, the AI is pretty easy to beat.

If you want a game with non-cheating AI, this is not for you. The AI cheats like a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.

this game doesn't seem to reward exploring. In fact, it seems to punish it. Trotting around the map collecting things is fun. But then when I was heading towards the end of the map the enemy commanders had such a ridiculous man advantage to me that I would have to waste a huge amount of time just skipping turns to try and accumulate enough forces, Reminds me more of an iphone toilet tapper than a old loved strat/rpg franchise

Bought it on sale. great title, sunk way to many hours into it. I know exactly what the OP is referring too, in that the AI DO gain units. I noticed especially in campaign they got some crazy stuff, like a 1000 + Marksmen.

Something to remember about the game though. The AI generally moves faster than you and it certainly thinks a lot differently to you. The AI will usually have resources and cities coming out is anoos, while you struggle to gain a foothold.

But the AI gains units the same way you do, week by week, the more cities and dwellings about that are under their control, the more units they get. Same as you. The game actually has a setting for unit growth also. Set that to fast and you make 30 to 40 core creatures a week from one city. Set it to slow and you get about 7 a week. The game offers you different ways to play. Personally I like my long, drawn out games. My chain lightning magic oriented necromancer can one hit almost all neutral armies in the early game, chain lighting tears through them all, once they beef up chain lighting becomes more balanced.

Basically the game progresses with you. Charge in with a small force or turtle up and accumulate.

Now, my big Pro heroes rant aside. I agree that uplay sucks, but you know, necessary evil and all that. I just turned off cloud synch for uplay and haven't had an issue since. Also lets not be too harsh on ubisoft eh? They did bring us some amazing titles. Or did everyone forget the assassins creed series? Or the farcry series.

This simply isn't true. How far into the campaign have you got? The Sanctuary final map for instance is clearly respawning huge armies every time certain conditions aren't met, and the game has disolved into me trying to work out what those conditions are as I can't beat the huge army in the field, no matter how much I stall and recruit. The walkthrough indicates a very specific, and not obvious list of cities to take, ignoring others, and waiting for 2 scripted AI to fight... meanwhile I've invested hours into that one round, maybe taken one city out of order, and now can't beat it as the AI is scripted to take all my cities back with unbeatable armies.

And that's simply no fun.

I also tried multiplayer and my friend abandoned it due to Out Of Sync, possibly because my Dynasty Weapon has improved between sessions.

I'm sorry, but the game really is a disaster.

It is pretty ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ horrible. I don't care how old this thread is. I built up a good 1000 or so skeletal spearman, several hundred (400-600) every other unit, and I've invested into the perk that lets me see the details of an opposing army. They have maybe a couple hundred of this or that. They are even marked with a 'Low' threat rating as I approach. Start combat. Every ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ enemy stack has been pumped to match my numbers and the enemy Fate Weavers can transform AND attack in the same round insta-killing whole stacks while mine are forced to wait. ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.

There are different ways to let them cheat though. The way it's done in this game is just horrible, it makes the game very one-sided, forces the player in a specific playstyle and doesn't really give you any freedom at all - it's just dumb and "overcoming" the AI is basically knowing how to abuse it, in case of the campaign often times restarting a few times (or reading a guide) to know what's going to happen, because some events will just break your neck otherwise. So instead of developing skill and overcoming the odds by making good decisions, this game's singleplayer is nothing but a bad puzzle game.
