plus side? it LOOKS beautiful. Puppetworks Animation Studio did a stellar job on the character design, modelling, concept art, etc.
maybe when it's $10 it'll be worth it... but not right now.
I VASTLY prefer HoMM VI to V. I thought V was clunky - and anyone claiming it's the closest of the recent games to III - I just don't see it. I just finished my first hot seat game of VI with a friend - we played non-stop for 8 hours, and I had a lot of fun. Now there are some kinks of course - but I am playing on a Nvidia card and haven't seen any of the problems I see reported about freezing or errors.
People might gripe about some of the mechanics in VI and I could see that - but is it trash? Is it bad? Certainly not. Haters are just gonna keep on hating - but this game is FINE, it plays well, it's enjoyable, and the length is good on the campaign.
I know people are going to gripe about this post - but don't be disuaded from the game by a bunch of baseless criticisms.
they should make a HoMM 3 HD...updated engine, HOMM 4/5 Units/heroes within the HoMM3 style
give heroes 6 a few years for the community to fix and balance the game as they did with 4/5.
but if you seriously havent played HoMM3 i suggest getting that one from GoG and applying the HiRez mod, experience the incredible joy of playing HoMM3 for the very first time like most of us did 10+ years ago, like a virgin~~
Baseless criticisms? I think not.. heroes 6 has been riddled with problems ever since release and there is still a few issues left.
1) Still only allowed 10 save slots even if cloud saves turned off
2) Town screen is stuffed unless I turn graphics to "low"
3) Stupid DRM is still there
4) Stupid UPlay screen is still there
Heroes 5 is an excellent game, with good expansions (especially the last one)
#2 is H5
Heros VI is nice, but not quite as good and definately lacking in the RMG department.
The skill systems both worked great in 5 and 6. The skill system in 6 is easier to understand. Without the skill wheel in heroes 5 it really was too random. I like to control my choices and not being forced to take an ability i don't like because there are only 4 or even 2 of them.
5 was great. 6 is more confartable than the Heroes 5. However Heroes 5 had more factions, which i really miss in Heroes 6.
Conclusion:
Heroes 5 was great!
Heroes 6 (without the whole DRM problems) is intelligent designed and confortable. I really like both, but i would pretend to chose Heroes 6!
Good theory, but no maps for sale. No, they just cut costs to get what they could out of us without a care for what we really want and what would truly make the game worth more in value and playability.
