Might & Magic: Heroes VI

Might & Magic: Heroes VI

Such a dissapointing game
I just finished playing (actually it crashed for the second time so I deleted the damned thing) the demo for Heroes 6 and all I can say for sure is that the graphics are pretty and the new skill system looks pretty impressive. The rest of it sucks. Hard. Like a hooker when the rent's due.

It might be the fact that the Knight doesn't actually make contact with his target when he rides by them swinging his sword. It might be that the controls feels loose, as if the whole thing were coded in such a manner as to make every mouse movement and click questionable. I'm sure a huge factor is that there are no towns.

In previous games in the series there was always a town you would enter and then build up, recruit more heroes and units, etc. At the epitome of this was HOMM5, when you entered the city you were given a sweeping cinematic that took you on a tour of every part of the city ending at the top of your capital builging. It was georgeous and emersive (if you didn't want the cinematic you could turn it off or just click the mouse to end). Heroes 6 has replaced this series standard with a status window, with a 2D picture of your town on the top and lines of data at the bottom. Presumably because Black Hole feels that the epitomey of emersion into a fantasy realm is the inclusion of a spreadsheet; just like they had in the olden days.

Not only does this ommission scream "Lazy," it also highlights another really nagging point about this game; it's buggy. I just played the demo today, February 28th of 2013, it was originally released in October of 2011, why is it buggy? Why did the demo crash an hour into it? If I wanted someone to play my game, I'd make sure the demo worked, it just sounds like common sense.

This game does not feel like a member of the heroes of Might and Magic series, it feels like Disciples 2. Which is sad. Sorry, Ubisoft, but I won't be buying your game.

The skill system is the most disappointing thing to me. Far inferior to the other HOMM incarnations of the game. And lack of advanture map locations. And the worst map editor in the series, meaning little user made content.

Why with todays' technology and internet speed do they not have simulataneous turns like they do in Civilization is beyond me. Most people play with online friends and they cant invite them over for a Hotseat game. I spent 40 bucks on this piece of crap. I have been playin heroes since heroes three and this one is very dissapointing and will never give them my money again GG Ubisoft.
