As for the "impossible" setting - well this included 2 things - you start with 0 resources (which you can have now as well - you start with like 2000g and no other resources on hard) and less stupid AI which also builds and creeps faster. The last is mostly true for AIs on hard now, except when they occasionally decide for some magical reason not to build champion units at all, thus instantly granting you victory in a few weeks/months.
is this with patches or the coming expension pack? I bought HOMM6 a couple months ago but quit it due to the vast amount of bugs.
You will be pleased to know that if you look within the directory that your HOMM6 was installed into, you will find an executible named "Editor." At least for me, that is where it is located in my HOMM6 Gold installation, indeed.
Your Royal Highness,
High King Zebular the Third
The Zebulon Kingdom
There IS a map editor and it has been around since the original launch of H6 BUT everywhere I read, people say it is useless, extremely complicated and in the end not suitable for the average Joe to create maps on his own when he so desires.
Ubi promised they will fix that in a month or so, making the map editor more user-friendly and this kind of talk (soon©) continued up until they announced the expansion and said there will be no improvements on the map editor whatsoever. I can give you a link but I'm not sure if it's appropriate to post links so here is the bit from the Q&A :
"- Will we get an improved map editor (with possibilities to put bosses/Dynasty weapons on our map)?
Unfortunately, as stated by Limbic and Ubisoft during Heroes VI Support, it is not possible to improve the Map Editor. Indeed, we would have to create a new Map Editor from scratch in order to provide you an user friendly and accessible tool, which would take a lot of time and resources. We then decided to focus on the expansion content, as our goal is to provide you a brand new faction (with new skills and units) and quality content for the Dungeon faction."
The AI not building champion units ? I don't think it's a bug. Maybe it's just me, but I swear overall the AI is dumber than when the game was released. Back then, 2 hard AIs could make your life miserable very fast, but now they just leave you alone for quite some time, then come with their main heroes with pathetic army, you crush them, capture their towns, game over.
The bugs i was talking about where game breaking in some cases. Skills not working, campaign related cutscenes/spawns not triggering making some maps impossible to complete. Or too easy to complete because a powerfull enemy hero is not spawning and you could walk straight to their castles without anyone stoping you. I think i encountered a huge bug every 30-60min in my first couple hours of playing.
The bugs combined with the lack of maps (some of the maps are from HOMM5, which i played dozens of times). Made me quit the game after a couple of days
HOMM3 map editor had a random map generator built into the map editor. So i always thought those two would go hand in hand.
in HOMM6 its the redicilous small amount of maps that puts me off. Some of the good maps are copied from HOMM5 so i know them in and out. Also i miss the impossible difficulty from HOMM3. It is really a shame because HOMM6 seems to be much better in terms of balance and gameplay. Like for example the spell resistance which makes it impossible to just snipe of high tier units.
Did they at least create a ton of new maps?
good to know :)
