Might & Magic: Heroes VI

The fix for screen FREEZING on nvidia graphic cards!
Some, most or all who try to play Might & Magic: Heroes 6 freezes on town screen on nvidia graphic cards and a widescreen monitor will find that most often in town or in the hero inventory screen the screen randomly freezes which means you need to restart your game. I have tried many a solution, and while changing drivers into older ones or even legacy ones may work there is a simple fix if you just want to play the game without hassle and see what its like and do you truly enjoy it!

So, it pretty much begins with going to options and clicking "play windowed" and setting resolution to 1024x786, this will change the freezing to occur only once in around... six or so hours. Four to six hours of gaming time before game crashing bugs is pretty much the best we can hope in this new age of gaming, yes?

Its also a good wake up call to realize its time to go outside and stop playing games, maybe talk to a buddy... or then a good wake up call to restart your computer so it clears cache and can progress enemy turns faster!

Enjoy, and if you do find a better way to get it to work, please post it in this thread.

I buy the game to 'play' the game, not to become one of Steam/Ubisift support crew. They should give us bk some/most/all our money for selling this broken POS. We're obviously not on theyre 'high priority' list, and after the phone conversation i had with Ubi support today (who blames steam for the F'up) I dought we will see any improvment soon. Goodbye Ubi, and your line of broken crap (Heros 1-6)
What? Heroes 1-6? Ubi$soft have only published Heroes V and VI. Heroes I,II,epic III and IV are developed by New World Computing and published by 3DO.
But I agree, Heroes VI is the last Ubi game I bought.

I have yet to get a 'Heroes' game that worked correctly out of the box, thats why i put the '1-6', but yet i still buy the new one like an idiot.. I've learned my lesson, and will never buy again. I continue to get no valid responce from Ubi, and I've tried most of the fixes mentioned, still freezing at random points, not just in city/hero screens, freezes in middle of battles, etc.. So im done with the game.

Played a MP game with a friend and this was screwing both of us at times. The company that made the game sucks and is out of business I think. This franchise is toast.

Hey, the new drivers seems to be working for me. I've played about 2 hours without a bug. If you were experiencing the town screen bug, you could always try the new drivers. I hope it works for you too and that it continues working for me!

About to update my video driver here, completely clean install, will let you know how i go.

As it is, though, this is not a NEW game and there doesn't seem to be a question of "Does everyone get the error?" so much as "How often does everyone get the error?".

This is one of two games out of nearly 300 that I wish I could get a refund on - and I bought it in the xmas sale! So it's not like I'm one of the poor souls who bought it more than a year ago and have been waiting for a fix all this time.

Ubisoft are the new EA; they're more than happy to let unfinished product go to market because they deal in franchises they know will sell on name alone.

minus the time it took to download & install the latest drivers, less than an hour game play.

The good news is, I didn't get the town freezing bug.

The bad news is, I got the black screen bug - which I've never had before.

I'll certainly be watching the forums carefully before even looking at their new HOMM title when it hits steam next month.

Got a few hours without a crash by playing in Windowed mode, that's just going to have to do for now.

Load game, enter town, screen freeze (not black screen) - uPlay says I managed 2 full minutes of exciting turn based play.

Looks like my previous progress was a coincidence.

So After trying to play for weeks now i have run into the same problem over and over. Downgrading drivers has not worked for me. Sucks there is such a lack of support for new and good video cards on this game.

What I learned so far is: Never again buy an Ubisoft game.

New drivers did not solve the problem, still crashed at town screen. So I used the old fix of deleting ProfileData in C:\Users\UserName\Documents\Might & Magic Heroes VI and have no problems what so ever.

So you do not need to lower the res, or put it in window mode. Just delete the file and let the system create a new one.

Or install 301.42 drivers. :)

still freezing even with 301.42 , less frequently, but still happens... tried everything except lowering resolution, but i'd rather play any of the previous M&M if i have to lower the graphic... FIX IT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ubisoft is not working to solucionate that problem with Nvidia graphic cards.
