Can't get Patch 2.1 to install.
Anybody else have the problem where the 2.1 patch isn't installing? I downloaded both a retail and a digital version of the patch, neither wants to install both give me "shades of darkness not yet installed" messages despite Shades of Darkness (FINALLY) working on my PC after several hours worth of re-installing, fiddling with keys and other random stuff.

I hear lots of people saying it works fine on steam but I got mine via steam but it refuses to update past 1.8 into 2.1
I don't want to play the 1.8 patch if the 2.1 patch fixes over a 100 bugs.

The following trick has worked for some Steam users, and it has been posted on a few threads :

1. Go to the folder where your 'Heroes VI' game is installed (for example, in my case, it is @ Steam/steamapps/common/might and magic heroes vi)

2. Delete (or if you want to play safe cut/paste to a temp folder) these files :

48220_install.vdf
installscript.vdf (mine does not have that file and I have a functional 2.1 version)
Data20.orc

3. In your Steam library' list of games, right-click on the 'Heroes VI' name, and then click on Properties, then Local Files, and finally on "verify integrity of game cache".

Steam will then launch a verification process which can last a good amount of time, and it will then download new files and update you to version 2.1.

I have not tried it because I did not need to, but it has supposedly worked for some Steam users who were stuck at version 1.8.

Great ! Thanks for taking the time to keep us updated on your situation. It is frustrating to offer help and never get feedback concerning success or failure.
Thanks it help me too.
