GOOD:
- ALL DLCs are unlocked, even if you only owned base version of the game (good change and a small redemption from Ubi$oft for removing all multiplayer).
- Somehow you can load old online campaign saves and save them as "Offline game" (they added few new buttons in the menus). I'm positively suprised with this, I was expecting to lose all save games (if it is just temporary, I recommend you to save your unfinished campaigns as "Offline game", so you can continue them in the future).
- You can still create new heroes in "My Dynasty Heroes" submenu.
- You can still play the game with a friend in hotseat mode
- Price of the game on Steam was significantly reduced (makes sense since they removed significant parts of the game).
MIXED:
- All campaign maps are automatically unlocked. I only fully finished Sanctuary campaign so far, but now the game thinks that I played all maps and DLCs and can start any map. For me, it's a positive change (I can finally play these campaigns in the order that makes sense story wise; there is a guide on Steam regarding this), but I suppose some fans will not like this change.
BAD:
- All multiplayer features are removed from the game (yes, it's now impossible to play online game), but Dynasty weapons are still there (though reset to lvl 1.). I'm not sure if you can lvl them now.
- I was hoping that they will somehow allow us to play the game online through LAN/Hamachi/Gameranger, but nope. Many older (some 20+ yrs old) games are still playable with these programs even if official servers are dead for years.
- All in game achievements are reset to 0 and removed. Not sure if you can unlock them again, this time in offline mode.
- Altar of Wishes is completely removed. You can't unlock anything. Same with Bestiary. It's empty. Not sure if you can unlock it in offline mode.
- Game uses more space on your HDD/SSD (13.5 GB now).
- Old problems with launching the game are still not fixed. You still need to set Compatibility mode to Win7 and disable Full Screen Optimization in the exe to run the game on Win10.
"the development teams released a game patch that will:
Allow you to continue using your save games for single player and local multiplayer.
Unlock all Dynasty weapons and pets, as well as set them to maximum level from the start.
Unlock all Dynasty starting conditions and traits.
Unlock items that are available at the Altar of Wishes."
------
My observations:
- The game still seems to require Ubisoft Connect to launch.
- The Ubisoft Connect rewards are back (the fifth Dynasty Traits slot, the Oblivion Dynasty weapon, and I think the bonus pet was the Dragon Whelp?). They were removed after the rewards server shut down so this is an upgrade over the previous version.
- You can't save your set of Dynasty Traits in the Altar of Wishes and can only do so at the start of a match, instead. Harmless.
- The unlockable heroes are missing, which means their Specializations are missing. While you can create your custom heroes at the Altar, and that's great, that feature has never supported the exclusive Specializations attached to certain, higher-tier (Silver+) heroes. Not sure why the heroes weren't simply unlocked by default like everything else, it seems like it would be so easy, am I overlooking something?
Traits you now pick per mission. Achievements were reset which is rough but makes sense since some of those granted uPlay points, which no longer exist.
I'm very glad this happened.
Not me, fwiw. Windows 11.
Thanks, that's a shame!
Been playing the game for the first timethe past weeks and I've been able to pick traits at start of every mission pre-patch.
I am actually bummered all dynasty weapons were unlocked, it was fun to have as a goal to lfind them and to level them up and now you're really OP in the early missions.
I also just noticed that if you finish a mission, whatever Dynasty weapon you had equipped is now reset to level 1...sigh
