Might & Magic: Heroes VI

Is this game really that bad?
I almost didn't buy this game due to all the negative reviews out there. I haven't put a lot of time into it, but it doesn't seem like it's the worst strategy game ever. What gives?

Also, please don't bring up Uplay. I've used it for years now, and it doesn't bother me that much.

no its not that bad. as you could see in the negative reivews most people just complain about technical issues with uplay or the game

Characters and campaigns are amazing, but the gameplay seems to be worse than HOMM3.
It's basically the same, but balance is worse, campaigns are scripted and unforgiving, leaving very little flexibility. It's just not fun and goes back to annoying instead.

Just want to add to this a bit.

Some of the campaign missions does feel a bit "time based", while others give you more time to get around to do different stuff.

The meat of the game is in character customization and the actual combat(or at least, this is where it excel compared to the other HOMM games).
Both require a fairly deep understanding of the different mechanics to get the most out of(just learning to use your faction ability correctly is a major step).

Which means that skirmish/hotseat mode gives you a lot of playtime.
The campaigns can be difficult, but does have an engaging story and is also quite rewarding(both in terms of beating it and progressing the story, and due to the benefits of unlocking new Dynasty weapons).

I have put hundreds of hours into this game, and been frustrated every step of the way.

the game is STILL full of bugs, even after all this time.

it IS that bad.

save yourself the headaches, and avoid this AND HOMM 7 like the plague.

In fact, save yourself headaches in general and avoid anything Ubisoft publishes, period.

it's quite apparent they do not like to pay their developers for in house testing of their products.

youve played 1k hours but tell others to avoid the game like the plague? :p
if you can get past the uplay stuff then it should be fine (for most people at least). and if you cant.. just refund it
I love Heroes VI.

Why would someone put a thousand hours into a game they dont like and think is a bad game?
Can someone explain that to me...

Lets put it this way. If you have for example a weekend full of internetproblems, even due to your provider, having nothing to do with ubi - you will not really have fun playing heroes VI in singleplayer because right when you are about to finish that really hard hour-long boss-battle you will be brought back to the main menu of heroes VI because the singleplayer campaign cannot be played without an internet connection. I have had my fair share of this, and let me tell you, even though i like the art/music of this game i at the same time hate it for this. And no, its not my provider that deserves the bulk of that hate.
I understand.
It's a pity that technical issues have ruined it, because it think Heroes VI is really nice.

The Heroes VI campaign missions are terrible compared to Heroes VII.
