No More Always-ON DRM?
Just read this from the Ubisoft website:

"Settlers 7 and Hawx 2 now playable in offline mode
Following the integration of offline mode within both Settlers 7 and Hawx 2, all Ubisoft games can now be played when Uplay PC is not connected to the Internet.

The Uplay PC client will automatically switch to offline mode when online connection is not available.

Should you want to manually switch to offline mode, you can do so by clicking the "Always start Uplay in offline mode" box in the Settings of the Uplay Client, available from the login screen or the top menu bar."

Can anyone confirm this?

i have held out for nearly three years but i promised long ago that i would purchase the game once the drm was removed. In this case the drm has been removed from the base game but the dlc maps are still locked behind a constant internet connection. It is a start and hopefully they will bring the dlc in line with the base game so that 100% of the game is playable offline instead of 80%. I am not sure about the status concerning the dlc that are not maps... will find out after the game is finished downloading and installed.
It feels great to stick to my guns and not support a practice that deliberately punishes paying customers. If more people was willing to not purchase any of the products ubisoft released with this draconian drm, this crap would of been fazed out long ago along with "preorder bonuses"that include content that should of just been put in the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ game in the first place, day-one dlc and online passes(Project Ten-Dollar by those ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ at EA).
It is a shame it took 3 years for it to happen. Publishers and developers are, at the end of the day, businesses. They have their best interests in mind, not yours. They try to make us feel privileged that they bring games and other products to us and that we MUST deal with any inconveniences, pay walls, dlc, constant internet connections and any other ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ to persuade us that they are running the show and we should keep our mouths shut and our wallets open to encourage their habits.
They are not in control. WE ARE. Our hard earned money runs the show. They cannot exist without OUR business. However when blind, fanatical, lazy, bored-ass gamers throw their money at the publishers or developers without stepping back to look at the bigger picture concerning the implication of business models that nickel and dime us and require us to do this and that before we can enjoy a product WE PAYED for, something is very wrong with this picture and this is a perfect example and result of the price of such naiveness so gamers deserve some of the blame for the state of things.
I am from the era that grew up during the reign of the NES. Some would consider me and my generation relics and inconvenient ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ like those i described earlier is a sign of the times. Fools...
GONE ARE THE DAYS YOU JUST POP IN YOUR GAMES AND JUST PLAY! NO NEED FOR PATCHING OR UPDATES BECAUSE THE DEVELOPERS KNEW THEY ONLY HAD ONE SHOT TO RELEASE A COMPETENT AND FINISHED PRODUCT! NO MANDATORY INSTALLS! NO DLC(OR DISC-LOCKED CONTENT) FOR YOU WALKED AWAY KNOWING YOU HAVE A FULL-FLEDGED PRODUCT FOR THE ASKING PRICE! NO MORE PUTTING IN CHEAT CODES WHEN NOW YOU HAVE TO PAY REAL MONEY IN THE FORM OF MICROTRANSACTIONS! I HAVE TO PAY TO CHEAT OR GET A HEAD START IN A PRODUCT I PAID FOR?!? WHY ARE MORE GAMERS NOT SCRATCHING THEIR HEADS AT THE AUDACITY AND ILLOGICALITY OF THESE ACTIONS?
I think it is some serious food for thought. Gamers need to realize that the power is in their hands. If game businesses do things you do not like, DO NOT BUY THEIR PRODUCTS! A couple of things may happen: the company goes out of business and other game companies learn a lesson or they make the necessary adjustment to make their paying customers happy to retain their business, plain and simple. They bestow upon us a polished and fully-featured product and we reward them with our money. It's not hard. It's not complicated. Signing off, it is time to play some settlers 7... and offline if i wish.... :)

Well, if DRM is disabled, I am buying it. It seems they got the message. After 3 years, I will buy Simcity 5 too...

I didn't reqalize when I bought it it was more of a Ubisoft Shopping Mall than a game, I will not play until the DRM crap is done, waste of money..............

The game sucks. I have had it for 5 days and been able to play a total of 2 hours. I get an error message that says "Attempting to restore network connection". What a waste of money. I paid $20 for this garbage game and it doesn't work. I really do not understand how stupid the developers of this game must be. A completely workable, DRM-free version of this game has been available for free on torrent sites forever. How can a freelance hacker make the game work better and Ubisoft's devs?? I chose to actually pay for it and I'm being punished by not being able to play a game I paid for. And the only reason I even bought it is because I was lied to. The site says DRM is gone from the game. That's complete BS.

I swear I will not give Ubisoft another dollar of my money. I'll play their games, but they will get nothing more from me, ever. Go kill yourselves Ubisoft. Thanks.

I bought this game during the sale and as far as I can tell, the Online DRM is gone. I started a game and then disconnected my computer from the network. The game ran fine for over 2 hours.

its funny.. people who steal the game can play on all the maps and everything without a internet connection XD but yet.. wait a minute.. why do they DRM the game if people can steal and play it free of any restriction? They are really punishing the customers here... not the users.
