The Settlers 7: Paths to a Kingdom - Gold Edition

Settles 7 Troubleshooting
Bought the game on sale, installed it and have been playing it for the last week. I already have over 40 hours in it and I am loving it. Figured I would stop by the forums and see what is what and man do people have problems with this game running right... To start off I run a custom pc with Windows 8.1 and I have been playing hitch free on ultra across the board. Because I enjoyed the game so much I thought I would throw out a quick troubleshooting guide to possibly help a few people who are suffering from simple problems and they just don't know it.

1. You have to set up a Uplay account and log in. Don't know why this is an issue, I have an Origin/Uplay/Steam account and personally of the three Uplay I have had the LEAST amount of issues with. You do NOT need to be connected to the internet to log in and play this games skirmish modes and single player campaign, you do however need to be logged in online to play their DLC as well as any multiplayer. If you don't want to play multiplayer or the DLC just log into Uplay and change it to "offline mode" just like you do wtih Steam. Now log into your Steam account and click to play the game. For any game bought through Steam (even on Uplay/Origin) you will most likely have to do this (run the game through Steam with the other program [Origin/Uplay] running with you logged in). If they ask for your cd key when you launch just plug it in (found by right clicking the game in your Steam Library and clicking "cd key"). Both your shortcut for Steam and Uplay need to be set to "run this program as an administrator" in the compatibility tab.

2. If your game crashes on launch after doing point 1 then it is not Uplay, it is the actual game. Next check your documents folder and find the Settler7 folder. In the folder you should find an "options.ini" file, open the file and look for:

[Quality]
FullScreen = 1
ScreenHeight = 1080
ScreenWidth = 1920

Now rightclick on your desktop and go to "screen resolution". Make sure that the screen height and width listed in the options.ini file are also listed as available resolutions when you click on "screen resolution" on your desktop.

3. If that doesn't solve your problem change your options.ini file to read:

[Quality]
FullScreen = 0
ScreenHeight = 720
ScreenWidth = 1280

and try to launch the game. If your game launches go into the in game options and change the video resolution to fit your screen as best as you see fit and save and exit. It should be fine from here on out.

4. If that doesn't work and/or there is NOT an options.ini file in your Settler7 folder (found in your documents folder) try to right click on Settlers 7 in your Steam Library and click properties. Under general tab click "set launch options" and type in "-windowed" or "-sw". If game launches then change your video options in the in game options menu, save and exit and your should be fine from here on out.

5. If there is not an options.ini folder and 4 didn't work then you will have to create your own options.ini file using Notepad. First right click on your desktop and click "screen resolution". Check your options for screen resolution and make sure that 1280x720 is available, if it is NOT available write down a resolution that is. Next:

-Go to your documents folder and find the Settler7 file and open it
-Right click anywhere inside the folder and then click "create new text document" and save file name "options.ini". You will have to erase the .txt and replace it with .ini.
-Open your new file and paste the following into the file:

[Quality]
FullScreen = 0
ScreenHeight = 720
ScreenWidth = 1280

If 1280x720 was not available put in the resolution that you wrote down as being available. Click "file" and then "save" and then try to launch your game through Steam. When game launches change your video options in the in game options menu, save and exit and you should be fine from here on out.

*If Uplay is out of date that could also be a problem. Game will auto update from menus if Uplay is "run as admin", which is simply done by:
1. right click on your Uplay shortcut and left click properties
2.In compatibility tab check the "run this program as an administrator" box
3. Hit "apply" and then "ok" on the bottom
**If Uplay is for whatever reason not auto updating after "running as admin" then:
1. Go to PC and click "uninstall or change a program" or go through control panel and then under programs click "uninstall programs".
2. Uninstal uPlay
3. Go to https://uplay.ubi.com/#!/en-GB/
4. Download uPlay from that website and install (do not use Steam to install Uplay)
***If none of the above worked then I would need to know more information before continuing on your troubleshooting.

hey, is there a way to activate Vsync? I cant find it in the game, activating it with my Nvidia Control Panel doesnt help and i still get tearing in the game. It runs flawless, only tearing is a problem there. Any idea?

Have you looked at:

I personally do not have Nvidia, but as was said in those threads, typically video cards have their own control panel that you can make these sort of things happen- if they don't you might have to get some other third party software as was suggested...
