(SPOILER) Attacker identity Disscussion

So i looked at a Lets play video cause i found something strange when the "crocodile" guy
attacked mae in the mine shaft at the end of the game and sure enough as i paused the video when the attacker lost his hat i noticed two things.

1.The attacker is not a crocodile at all, he wore a Camera (or a mask, hard to tell) under his cloack that made it look like a snout
2.the attacker had a broad head, cat ears, hair like maes mom and a hole (bite mark?) in one ear

So first i thought it was aunt cop but she has no ear bite mark. and the parents are all there in the ending. so anyone got an idea if we maybe encountered the attacker before?
have i missed something? has someone already figured out who it is?

Its weird because Mae's Aunt isnt even present during the epilougue.

thats why i thought it had to be her. but the attacker clearly seemed to have a hole in his/her ear.
and earlier videos did not show such a thing with aunt mall cop.

to me it looked like the hobo by the church

just checked cause i thought that could be it. nah. not the same. besides the different ears ,the attacker clearly had some kind of hairstyle and the hobo has none.

Could it be Casey Hartley? (Plot Twist!)

hmm well he does fill the cat part even though Casey Picture does not look similiar,thought who knows what might have changed since he disappeared and the only thing that pointed to Casey's Dead was the hooded man saying so, he could be lying.
thought all in all,i doubt it.

Speaking of extreme but unlikely plot twists. What i thought interesting is that in one of Mae's sketches in her journal of her Grandad he does indeed has kind of a hole in his ear.
Maybe he somehow faked his death with help from the mysterious god they worship.
i mean the god DOES give the olds youth and energy back and it was already proven that he was part of a secret society already. its rather unlikely but an interesting thought.
was mae's grandma ever mentioned?

Also if Mae's Grandad was still alive that's both be amazing and kinda sad too, considering in that case she unknowingly killed him in a pretty gruesome way. Another possibility is when he said he'd see Mae have kids as a ghost, maybe he wasnt kidding?

If you go off Mae's sketchbook, isn't the hole in the wrong ear to be her grandad?

The attacker wore a mining helmet. The attacker is feline in appearance, and has the mother's haircut, but has scraggly ears, which the mother doesn't have.

I have a theory that this is actually Mae, from the future; she has the same sort of haircut as the mother, just dyed and styled at the moment, and she does have a messed up ear - maybe things get rougher for her. I think that her dream of a dead Possum Springs came to pass, and she lost touch with her friends, and basically was alone. She needed that place so badly, she (maybe using the power of the Black Goat) decided to go back in time, to when she could have worked to save it. She's not mentally stable, and immature, so this may have been a desirable course of action for her.

I think she attacked younger Mae at the end out of frustration and desperation to stop things, and try and salvage what she could; Mae knocks the helmet off and, in the dark, may have recognised herself a bit. Which is why she talks to the Black Goat about knowing her end will be painful, but it's worth it to hold onto things as they are now. And she ends up forgetting this revelation, and the cycle repeats.

Just a theory, and one with plenty of holes no doubt; I'd really like to know for sure WHO the attacker is. Dead Grandpa? :P

The hobo is a new comer and just moving through. He is more likely to be picked as a victim than be a part of the local cult.

If you confront the conspirators about Casey they clearly tell you that they killed him and threw him down the hole as he was just the worthless piece of trash they hate.

It is possible that the face reveal was only in Mae's mind, she had her mind pretty scrambled up by the influence of the Goat and her own anxiety issues. So maybe she saw herself there, as a representation of her own phobias and psyche illness, bringing her down, even if the guy was completely unrelated to her.

Am I the only one who thinks The Goat wasn't real and that the visual noise was due to Mae's psychosis struggles?
