Why is this game listed as "great on deck"? (No gamepad support?)

It took me forever how to even start a new game (had to remember how to manually bring up the software keyboard to be able to use C to select the "start new game" option after finding all of the complaints from other people unable to start the game) and since that key is apparently necessary to even see the intro, I have to have the giant keyboard covering half the screen to be able to do anything.

This is not a "great" user experience. Am I missing something here? Is there some manual control setting I need to change to just be able to use gamepad controls? The Steam Deck says the game is already supposedly using them (and I did try switching to a few different templates with absolutely no change in controls behavior).

game has controller support, i have no idea why you are trying to use "c" to do anything.

Did you manage to fix the controls? I've tried everything possible already, but Steam Deck flatly refuses to work with this game. All other games work fine

the game works on steamdeck, you can find a lot of sources stating so. Even youtube videos. The game received no updates for years now, nothing changed that could have made it not work.

I don’t know if it works on the steam deck, but it doesn’t work on linux… I get a small window with a couple of intro logos, and then the window closes and… nothing…

Weird. Maybe I will circle back when/if I get the new Steamdeck at some point and see if something was off with my gen 1 one.

I never got the controls fixed because I have hundreds of unplayed games in my library, so I just uninstalled the game and moved on to something else.
