When should I play "Longest Night" and "Lost Constellation"?
Hello!

I would like to purchase "Night in the Woods" because several people praised its narrative, but I want to play the other two related games as well, "Longest Night" and "Lost Constellation".

So, I wanted to ask: when do you suggest I play the companion games?

Would it be better to play them before playing "Night in the Woods"?

Or is the order irrelevant?

Thanks!

I'd say before. While the order is more or less irrelevant, the main game does have nods and references to both games (especially Lost Constellation) so it's probably better to play them first so you can appreciate those moments and callbacks and thematic stuff more when they happen in the main game.

@thisisaudo: Thanks for the answer. :)

Would playing "Longest Night" before "Lost constellation" make more sense?

They were made before the game, play them before the game. Longest Night, then lost Constellation.

For those it really doesn't matter which one you play first, but Longest Night is like 20 minutes while Lost Constellation is like 2 hours or so (depending on how thorough you are and stuff it can be more or less). So I'd do Longest Night first.

I'd play the companion games first; that's chronological and Mae references them in some of the friend quests. It doesn't really matter though, I played NITW first and have just started playing the two others now that you can access them from the main game.

Oh, so the "Night in the Woods" sold on Steam contains also the companion games and you can play them before the main one?

Yup, they added them in with the Weird Autumn Edition update that just came out earlier this week.

Thanks, I wasn't aware of that. I was about to take them from itch.io but having them on Steam is for sure better for me.
