How does going the Bea path make you close friends when 2 of them involve ruining her night?(spoilers?)
I recently came back to this game and I decided to focus on the Bea missions. One of them is neutral. You join her for work, and once you get trapped in the basement you're helpful in getting you back out by beating up the furnace.

The one at the mall starts out nice with spraying people, which actually makes her laugh, but then it goes very sour after you go to her house for dinner. No matter what options you choose it ends with her royally pissed at you.

Then there's the party scene. I don't think she directly said it, but she's letting the boys she's interested in think she's a college student just going to an off-campus party before Mae comes over and reveals she lives a 90 minute drive away in a dump like Possum Springs as well as crap-talking him the whole time, which leads to her running off like a mile away to a bench by the river. Yes, it does end with you making up, but Bea kinda seems more resigned to things because she doesn't have the opportunities to make her life better. When Mae asks Bea even says she doesn't know if she'd be friends with Mae if she had other options.

With all the misery she causes Bea, like forgetting her mom was dead and everything that goes on in her missions, it just doesn't feel real at the end when Bea is saying you're just like a sister to her.

It makes more sense in the Gregg path, since the two of you always have fun in your missions and end up leaving on a good note, even in his final mission where Angus is angry at him for Mae bringing out his criminal side again.

I just don't buy it with Bea. Like, you haven't really done anything that positive in her life since returning.

Mae seems to be the only one that brings some joy and crazyness in Bea's life (the fish at the mall, the fireflies, etc), but being friends is just not about having fun. A lot of reasons why Mae screws up all the time is that she doesn't really know what Bea is going through. Bea doesn't talk about her problems until after they fight but then Mae listens and really cares about her friends. Some fault is Mae's, like forgetting that Bea's mother is dead, but she feels really guilty about that. Mostly, the misunderstandings seems to be caused by Bea's reluctance to talk about herself. Mae is best friend because she makes Bea talk about her problems.

Well, i haven't really read your whole wall of text, only the title.

But, they were friends before, and despite Mae acted like an ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ to Bea, Bea still understood that Mae only wanted to stay on Bea's good side, not intentionally kicking Bea in the butts. Bea somehow understood Mae's brokenness, and that idea only came to full circle once Mae revealed her entire story to Bea, which made them bonded again. You can kinda see how it progresses from Bea went all out against Mae, saying how dumb and stupid Mae was since the event which Mae getting drunk at that party, to Bea not being angry at Mae after Mae just spilled Bea's party by telling the truth about Bea.
