Research - How to Unlock the Upgrades\Get Different Research Fields
Hi,

A bit of feedback: I love this game, sitting above earth building a space station is awesome. I'd like to see the ability to cancel a build if the game is paused but I guess not having that ability adds to the realism.

However, I'm only getting Biology research assignments. I have a 1 x Generic Large Lab and two others that I've upgraded to work just on Biology as that's all I'm getting. I've unlock Biology and Technology lab upgrades but don't seem to get anything other than Biology research. The "Unlock" research projects haven't reappeared since Day 1 really.

Any advice on what I might be doing wrong? Thanks for your time.

Nearly the same here. I have eight labs - all updated and my Research Level is 10. I only get Biology Experiments and only level 4 or 5 experiments. And I can only upgrade 2 things in the lab.

My RL is only 4 so can't expand on your issues.

Do you have the same unlocks as me i.e. Biology and Technology? Wonder if this is a feature lock rather than a bug?

Also my station has only been in orbit for ~98 Days (going by crerw member days) so maybe 101 Days. Not sure if that matters.

I have Biology and the last one as expansion, don't remember now, what it was. I can't update any other thing. I don't think that time is a matter. My station exists for about 2 years.

Literally just got the other four specialisation unlocks in my Research Inbox! Guess it just takes time for those.

Still getting only Biology though so will update if the specialisations bring in more projects but on a higher level.

PS: Was typing this before your post. Interesting read. My date is Oct 16 2034 if that helps anyone at all.

Seems to be a bug that you only get biology experiments.

But I'll have a look on my experiments and what I can do to trigger the other Updates.

It's very strange. As I removed the two Upgrades and redid them, I could update all others, too. But it seems that you only can have one Update working.

Another thing is that my complete station died as I reached 2.145B Dollar. It went to -2.145B Dollar, my station directly wrecked and all astronauts died.

So I took a screenshot when the upgrades became available http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198098204175/screenshot/817811439334918834
but basically:

LSS001 - Lab Specialization E&S
=========================
Technology, Level 3
Unlocks Earth and Space Sciences specialization for lab modules

LSP001 - Lab Specialization Physical
===========================
Technology, Level 2
Unlocks Physical Science specialization for lab modules

LSE001 - Lab Specialization Education
============================
Technology, Level 2
Unlocks Educational Activities specialization for lab modules

Now these all became available after I upgraded a lab with the Technology upgrade. I think the key was that these are Technology disciplines and need that upgrade to get them.

I'm now getting "some" other research but still mostly biology. I'm currently playing with which upgrades can sit together in a lab. It seems some knock the other off and you end up with only the last upgrade.

Hope that helps anyone else out.

UPDATE:
* It seems upgrades can't sit together in one lab, it's one upgrade per lab.
* Getting a lot of different research offers through now.
* Keep the faith, it'll happen :)

So it seems like the 'tech' specialisation for a lab allows you to research other specialisations. YMMV.

Yes!

The Technology specialization is needed to unlock further lab specializations. Additionally, science level 2 is required for Education and Physical Science; Earth & Space Sciences and Human Research unlock at science level 3.
