i'm reinstalling sh5 and than restart collecting mods. i played few hours and passed a lot of time reading guides or dowloading mods or solving problems correlated.

i think that is important signal to a person interested in buying sh5 that a lot of important patches for sh5 realistic simulation not works with steam version of the game, at the moment.

i'll buy a new CD copy and so this will be the most expencive game of my life.

end of the story.

The Patch isnt that big of a deal imo . But i feel your pain .

It does go over the limitations of teh steam version in teh linked discussion .. But The patch in itself that steam users cannot use is fairly minor compared to the Mods installable by jsgme ..

All again just another reason i wish SH had workshop ..

No thanks. The game works fine for me and I'm enjoying it as it is without any mods.

when you assign points to torpedo man torpedoes goes faster and tdc don't know it, so you will have a miss. let's try.

the patcher, for what i know, patch it and some else.

but i understand who prefers a no mod installation: the game is more "arcade" and playable. modded is for fanatics of realistic simulation.

is there a list of mods that do work with the steam version?
ma11 Feb 26, 2014 @ 11:29pm
i use this set. it is based on the redhorse link of subsim list of basic mod in first post plus other needed to make them work toghether. the sequence of installation is important,

there is not a real navigation mod (you must find the position, that is not indicated on the navigation map.), i'm not sure it works without patcher.

Keep modding. It takes time but I think everyone eventually comes up with thier own working modsoup. I will never just look at someone's mod list and copy it!

Mods are definately the way to go. There's mods for adding Battleships, Merchant & Cargo ships, Mods for awesome sunsets, thunderstrorms, and even ones to add a lot more detail to the ships & the water. If you like this sort of thing, there's even a few mods that increase the 2 deckguns so they fire like a machine gun, and the rounds are 100x more explosive. You can literally surface & destroy the entire IJN. (Great for stress relief). Go to subsim.com. I've personally downloaded a couple dozen or so Mods from there and all work with Steam version of the game. Besides, if there ever was a problem, you could always disable all Mods & verify game cache integrity through Steam, which will replace any damaged or corrupted files. At subsim.com, first go to "Utilities" & download the JSCME Modding tool. Follow instructions. Most Mods work with it, but read each individual Mods' install instructions.

How very odd of the person who came on to a modding thread just to tell us he's not in to mods. I wonder if he also goes in to butcher shops and says "See me? I'm a vegetarian I am! that's right!" and then leaves.

Definitely an odd sort.

can it get any more confusing? a billion mods to choose from plus i have to make an account at a site ill never use again just to get this updated? way too much work involved, i suggest you make things a little more user friendly, i couldnt be bothered reading into this for hours to get it all right. In my opinion, bundling the mostly used mods into a pack for quick easy download should be priority.

Well........ , actually .. lol , I totally feel your pain brother .. But dig it .. Its not getting it updated , The game runs fine as released and i played it through Just vanilla and very much enjoyed the game , It can indeed get more confusing , as installing mods often leads to creating mods all of which will keep you on that site quite a bit if you dig the whole thing , ..To me , Modding sh5 is partly a quest for a kind of perfection , and partly its about the journey getting there .

But finally , Just so happens that there are several Megamods for SH5 , The current flavor of the month is Wolves of Steel , its new and has lots of bells and whistles and some of the best looking water ive seen in SH5 ,Takes a bit of effort to get it installed right tho . I will have to admit that its a pain to do the initial install of jsgme , But its cake once you get everything set up ..
