How I got the game to work. Dec 2020.

1: Start all over, uninstall from the steam library, then go into the steam folder where SH5 was installed and manually delete the Silent Hunter 5 folder if it is still there.

2: Download and install SH5 from Steam again.

3: Open control panel and go to programs and features -> uninstall programs. Look for Ubisoft Game Launcher, I think it was called - I'll update when I confirm. Anway UNINSTALL UBISOFT GAME LAUNCHER.

4: Now download and install Ubisoft Connect and set up an account if you need to.

5: Launch SH5 from steam so it will give you the Product Key, copy to clip board. The game won't launch, don't worry.

6: In Ubisoft Connect find the add product key option and paste the key that Steam gave you. Now Silent Hunter 5 should show up in Ubisoft Connect.

7: Launch the game from Steam or Ubisoft Connect.

8: Mods, TWoS in particular. Now that you've done all the above stuff run vanilla SH5, make sure it runs, then exit.

9: Shut down Steam and Ubisoft Connect, make sure they aren't just minimized. Then run the TWoS exe. When you get to the generic patcher just exit and finish the setup.

10: Once the TWoS exe is done go into your SH5 folder and find generic patcher and run that according to the instructions. You just hit open then hit enter a billion times until the mods show up.

Not working for me. I somehow got the initial loading video to play partially on the left of the screen, but as soon as the video is over it disappears.

I had the same issue as graeme.boyd001. When starting Silent Hunter 5 I just got the intro video partly using the screen.. changing scaling to 100% in windows display settings fixed it for me.

Lmao. I had similar troubles years ago trying to play this unbelievably unfinished game. Had me 100's of hours of fun in silent hunter 5, yet also 100's of hours just trying to start the game. Then hundreds more with the tonnage bugs. The 100's more finding and installing the mods. I suppose the next time I have an entire century off of work I will play this game again.

I've just installed Silent Hunter 5 and found out the reason It doesn't start is that you need to change your Display Settings. Mine was set at 125% and I've now changed it to 100% and that did the trick :)

So right click on your desktop screen and select display settings then find

Scale and Layout and change to 100%

Restart your computer and this will take effect and Silent Hunter 5 will now work correctly :)

Edit: i was getting Error1 and Error2
After i restarted the pc uninstalled the steam version and downloaded the the game through ubiconnect it worked. was having troubles connecting to ubiconnect but it finally worked.

@tamagotchil2003 What is the problem you are experiencing? If you have troubles with it I strongly suggest you to set up a post at SUBSIM forums in the section dedicated to SH5. lol. just got SH5, followed youre instruction (which says: uninstal Ubi game launcher from youre PC) and got "Ubisoft Game launcher: code error 1
checked the "code error 1" and it says i need ubi game launcher to run the game.
gonna try to install it, and see what happens
