Need help
How can someone who's never experienced Synchro, XYZ, or Pendulum decks before know what type of deck is overall better than another? I only know of like 4 decks and I can't tell which are newer or which are better. I know of Gishki because Mako challenge used it, Evol because Rex challenge, Madolche because Pegasus challenge and Lightsworn because my brother used it in some other Yugioh game.

So how do I go about learning all the popular deck types and what year they released in?

By playing campaign mode you should learn to know most of them.

Ok but how do I know which of them are even good or where to start on making a deck to have a chance to beat one of the newer decks? So far just about every campaign match there's always banned cards and I don't use any unlike them.

yugioh.wikia is a good place to get basic information on how a deck theme is being played, what cards are recommended and what weaknesses they have.

apologies for long post lol

Pendulum > XYZ > Synchro > Fusion/Ritual

Pendulums are (probably) the best summoning method; PePe Pendulum decks were like Tier 0 in 2016. I'd recommend building Normal Pendulums or Performapal Magicians since they're pretty easy to learn.

XYZ decks are also pretty good because of how generic and wide the XYZ toolbox is. Some XYZ decks which are easy to understand are Evilswarm (anti-meta XYZ deck), Tellarknights (also kind of anti-meta), Battlin' Boxers (summon their Boss Monster and protect it) and Rank 10 Trains (spams out powerful Rank 10 XYZ monsters). But, if you're playing without a banlist then Dragon Rulers are probably the best XYZ deck to play.

Synchros are the hardest to understand for new players out of the summoning methods. They also have the most diverse set of playstyles. I'd recommend playing Infernity Synchro or DARK Synchro, as they have the easiest playstyles. Also, a lot of the synchro "support" you'll see used in the 5Ds Campaign is awful.

Fusion decks aren't really the best as they use up all their hand resources easily. Shaddolls are probably the best fusion deck to play as they have a spell which can fusion summon monsters in your deck. For a new player, I'd recommend learning Masked HERO (although technically not a fusion deck), Cyber Dragon (summon out big machines with high atk) or Gladiator Beasts (contact fusion archetype).

Ritual decks have the same problem as Fusions, they use up too many resources in the hand. Nekroz are a ritual deck that was meta at one point though, but it's pretty hard to learn. Gishki is probably the easiest ritual deck for new players to learn, but you already know that one it seems.

If you need a deck core for any of the decks I recommended, I'll be willing to post one.

I think Pendulum takes longer to learn for beginners. They have more special rules like being resummoned from the extra deck or being treated as spells.

All down to experience really. Ill acknowledge that they're a bit complicated too.

Thanks. I guess when the story fights start to use synchro I will too, same with the other card types. I actually want to play with Madolche since the cards are cutesy and I've heard good things about it. How does that type of deck fair against the story fights and challenges? I have to get all the way to Zexal to buy the pack for them though. I've been playing with Bonz ritual deck (demise king) for a while now and I just beat Bandit Keith challenge which was Pendulum based deck with it. The deck seems pretty strong for where I'm at in the story feels a little cheap.

Madolches should easily get through the story decks, no problem. Side note, Madolches have arguably the best XYZ monster in the game, lol

About the part on the 'cheap' ritual deck:
Gonna be honest here, any decks will feel cheap against the AI decks. All of them are pretty bad not gonna lie. Although Demise has been an OTK deck since it's release lol. It was semi-limited at one point

Decks that are easy to understand and have good consistency is Blue Eyes. You should try that deck out as it can teach you the usage of XYZ and Syncros in a very comfortable setting.

Although w/o alt.blue eyes its not as effective, you'll have to throw in master and maiden (along with the 3 copies of sage).

Pendulum's are relatively easy to understand, but their full advantage comes in a pendulum focus deck like Performapals or dinomist, etc.

Fusion, Zaizaen has stated this already, but Fusions still borrow a lot of flaws from their early days, being that you can end up minusing. That's why a lot of fusion archetypes have their own polys which give you searches, draw power or retrival.
Fluffals are a good fusion archetype though, can easily OTK and go into crazy +s(meaning you get a lot on the board).(the entire set has to be purchased via DLC)

Yeah, to me
the easiest to learn is XYZ, Fusion and Rituals(Links as well, but we don't have that in this game), followed by Syncros then Pendulums
