Starting party recommendation?
I've bought the obsidian version, any recommendations on a good party mix initially? Should I go for 3/4/5 members? Cheers in advance.

The larger the party the more area you need to close but the time does not change.

Right now I am playing with four people.

Diversity is a key. Try Merisiel, Kyra and Ezren, not nad for a start.

I've been trying out a bunch of 3 person teams and so far my strongest has been druid/ranger/monk... but certainly not because of the monk. The druid is great at passing skill checks with help from the animals. The ranger is great at helping teamates in combat. If I were to pair those two together again I'd probably add the fighter or sorcerer.

I'm actually considering trying a 2 person team yet.

Kyra is a beast, not including her is just shooting yourself in the foot.

Actually Kyra imo is one of the weaker Heros. Her healing ability is too slow, and healing isn't that strong in this set. She doesn't do anything else too well.

I feel like a 4 man party is the best with 1 Melee Weapon Based char, 1 Dex based char, 1 Divine/Wisom character and 1 Arcane user. This will cover everything you can use in terms of cards, while giving you a decent skill set to deal with a lot of locations/banes.

Having a high DEX and High WIS char is good because I feel like WIS and DEX come up more often for closing locations and dealing with annoyances, but STR and Arcane users are better at combat.

I like Seelah, Erzen, Harsk, Lini as my best party but any combination works (I used this team for my legendary run and it worked really well)

How do you win with 4 characters without healing and discarding many blessings for extra turns? Guess we have a completely different play style, but Kyra's still a beast.

Kyra has a ton of blessings and can just discard them all, then heal herself next round, rinse, and repeat.

Also she doesn't have a ridiculous 5 weapons cluttering her hand like certain other heroes, but can get through her deck quickly enough to get to her weapons. Honestly, how are 5 weapon heroes like Harsk good, but not Kyra?

Two questions from a newbie about this discussion:

1. The team of Seelah, Erzen, Harsk, and Lini - did you use the standard or alt versions? Just curious as I would like to try this team myself.

2. tiamats4esgares - you talk about getting through your deck quickly enough to get to the cards you want. I find that I DON'T want to go through my deck quickly. Once I can't draw another card, that character dies. I have also read in other discussions/forums that you want to be able to cycle through your cards fast enough. How is this a good strategy, please? I am always worried that I will run out of cards too soon, and I am always very close to doing so in the few missions I have done so far.

Thanks!

For the second question, The speed going throug the deck only matter if it good for you. I try to work at keeping getting as many cards to be recharge as I can.

I find having 2-4 cure spells distributed among the party more than enough, as well as some of the allies that heal and other things.

The thing with dropping all of Kyra’s blessing and using herself heal is that it cost a turn to do it (You trade it for her explore) and you can’t get those blessing back right away (You have to redraw them). Depending on your discard, you may not even get the blessings, and if you roll low (Say you heal 2) you don’t gain much from it.

I’m not saying Kyra is bad, I just think she’s weaker than most of the other characters. Other than healing she doesn’t have much. She has a low combat die (Strength at 6 with +2 for melee). Shes extremely good with wisdom but doesn’t have the spell slots to make her a divine spell blaster (And divine attack spells are weak this set), which leaves her in an awkward position where you want to raise STR so she can fight, but you also want to raise WIS because that’s her best stat. That being said if you like her and she works well for you, then more power to you. This game has enough variety that any party comp can work, and I have beaten the game with her in a 3 person party (I feel she shines a lot more in a small party where losing a couple turns to heal isn’t anywhere near as bad)

I can't speak for all the weapon holders, but Harsk is fine with a lot of weapons because he can recharge them (or any card) to give his allies combat bonuses. These become huge in legendary where monsters often are tougher. Valeros can discard his weapons and have them recharge instead so he doesn't have to worry much about it either. That being said I'm not a big fan of Valeros tbh.

For the 1st question- I used the standard versions, I don't have the atls for most chars yet (Waiting for ambassador). FYI I feel like Merisiel and Harsk are equally good, and Seoni is almost as good as Erzen (Some argue she is better) so if you want some variety on what I said those are some good options.

Thank you, Drager and Faray! Very helpful. Recharging is definitely a mechanic that I need to pay way more attention to.

I like to keep my hand small and recharge before I explore so in case my character take damage.
FroBodine Jun 19, 2017 @ 5:12pm
How do you recharge before you explore? I thought recharge actions were as a result of playing a card, e.g. you play a card, and it can recharge after its effects take place.

Some cards allow for it. I use the cure spell before I explore. I make a point to use shrouded sneak attack for as many attack as I can. They can only damage you up to your hand limit but if you can increase your deck size then that also reduce. I want increase the number of card that be recharged before I risk combat.
