How do I hack stuff?
I play on PC
I have only managed to do it once
I really need to hack turrets
I follow the prompts but it doesn't seem to work?

if I'm not confusing anything, hacking turrets is available from the second skill level.

I have the neccessary skills to do it
Am I supposed to do it more than once to perform the hack?
How do I know how many times I have to do it - once, twice or three times?
There's no time for that!
Sometimes I have to press Enter, sometimes I have to press numeric 0 when I get to to the "goal"
It's very confusing

to hack, you need to press the needed key when you approached the object. after that, the mini-game is activated. as the "complexity" of the hacked object increases, the number of "races" in the mini-game that must be completed in time increases. after successful completion, the object must be hacked (for example, hp of the hacked enemy operator/turret will become a different color - the color of allied npcs).

well. I will try to explain it in another way. for example, there are two doors. for one door, you need 1 level of hacking, for the other - 4. in the first case, you need to hold the point to the finish once and press the desired key (it appears from the side when the point hits the circle). in another, it must be repeated four times in a row, managing to press the right buttons and take the point to the next finishing position. in both cases, after completing the combinations and the actions performed, the door must be hacked.

if you run out of time, the door (like any other object) won't be hacked. and it doesn't matter if it's the first level of hacking or the fourth.

So... how am I supposed to do that in 12 seconds
nimue Aug 14, 2022 @ 10:17am
the speed and dexterity of your hands. with proper skill, you will succeed. (if I'm not confusing anything, then the time also increases depending on the level)

well, and, if anything, in addition to hacking, there are other ways to get the desired result. you will definitely not find yourself in a dead end situation.

My dexterity sucks, always has (accident, long story)
But I see on youtube I only have to do it twice
That should be doable with a little lluck

yes, I can't disagree that a hacking mini-game isn't the best find in PREY. but, as I said, even if you can't use hacking, you have other less trivial ways to solve the problem. try and experiment.

use hacking for simple things (level 1-2), find another solution for the other two levels. believe me, you will definitely find it.

a sad thing. I hope it won't hurt you to enjoy the game anyway.

I cannibalized my weapons to get four turrets from the fabricator
Elazar still says no code
nimue Aug 14, 2022 @ 12:59pm
in principle, you could have done it differently - there are broken/whole turrets on the level those was possible to bring and use. the code is reported after you place the turrets in front of the door.

I placed the turrets
Do they have to be closer to the door?
nimue Aug 14, 2022 @ 11:29pm
the turrets should stand at an average distance from the door (a big round one, behind which typhons walk.) in order to shoot and be safe from typhons. for example, like this.[i.rutab.net] but I personally preferred to put turrets in a semicircle, and throw the bait for typhons under the feet of the enemies. have you activated the turrets?
