Moon Shark broken??
Ever since I got Mooncrash, however long ago, I've thought that the note you find immediately before being introduced to the Moon Shark - about staying off the sand - was a misdirect, because it tracks me even when I make certain not to touch sand. Worse still, when I am on large rock formations, the Moon Shark will often rush over, and then loiter around me, blocking progression while the corruption clock counts down. The rocks behind the Typhon Tower to the left of the Moonworks seems to be particularly bad for this. I've killed enough of them that they don't carry that original sense of dread anymore; now they're just incredibly annoying.

Can anyone confirm if jumping from rock to rock is actually supposed to prevent their triggering & my game is busted somehow?

They still pop up from time to time, but the intended functionality is that they're operating on shai-hulud rules and if you don't touch the dust then they're not supposed to "see" you, even if they're up
The problem is that - for me, at least - they don't pop up "from time to time"; it is a virtual inevitability that travelling from one Crater location to another will draw it to me, unless I'm jumping straight from the central tower to another location with no touchdown on anything at all. Jumping from rock to rock at the Crater entrance: Moon Shark. Jumping from the rock-stack to the digger wreckage by the Crater Shuttle entrance: Moon Shark. Walking around the stone section beside the Moonworks: friggin' Moon Shark! Hell, even scampering along the rock wall between the Shuttles and the Crew Annex has triggered it. The only advantage I've ever notice from standing on something other than sand is that I might have something to crouch on or behind out of its cone of vision.

If this is not the case for other people, then I'm glad, because it is obnoxious, and I wouldn't want it to deter people from playing what is otherwise one of my favourite games.

What about loitering? Does anyone have the Moon Shark do a 3-stop circuit in front of their location, indefinitely?

Again, it's not supposed to have a cone of vision, it's not supposed to see you unless you touch the regolith. It's blind. It just happens to be around you because it knows something is going on around there. If it's attacking you and you never once touched the sand, then yes, that is a bug.

I agree with you OP, same problem.

I'm not sure if this will help or not, but if you see any tentacle nests around they are VERY good at taking out the moon shark. You can throw objects near the tentacle nest to attract the moon shark, and once it pops up the tentacle nest will indiscriminately plow through the Moon Shark's health. Be sure to finish off the moon shark yourself if you want the kill points. Tentacle nests will also attack other enemies (and they kill Typhon much faster than they kill the player).

The tentacle grenades don't work the same way though (sadly). Typhon just seem to shrug them off, and they are usually more interested in attacking me than any nearby typhon anyway. xD

Another tip for getting by the Sand Shark. I always take the artax? propulsion device, as well as the advanced propulsion mod (it's 1000 sim points or 1500 or w/e). It costs about 2500 total for both purchases, but it allows you to zoom around the crater and you will barely ever touch the ground. You can double tap space for a fast boost but I don't recommend this unless you REALLY need to dodge something. It just drains your jets for a quick boost.

But really the tentacle nests will make the moon shark a joke. :)

Edit: I also suggest completing Riley Yu's objective if you haven't already. It unlocks another way to deal with the moon sharks.

The moonshark can hear in close to medium proximity, but has a very high sense for vibrations in the ground.

Personally I just bring a spore and use them for a free Delay_Loop.time
