Prey

Great mind trick (quick save & qiuck load)
Basically arkane knows player’s action pattern. Knowing pattern lets them play with our minds, by simple mechanics For example they know where and when you are going to save/load and what specifically for. But first lets try to deal with one thing, prey have two active “save” systems aoutosaves and quick”save”/ quick load they are here for making a checkpoints not saves, only manual save and aoutosave saves properly. F5 and F9 works like markers or dots on timeline.

In other words and putting it simple, if you Quick save and then kill an NPC Quick loading after that game will take into considiration that you tried that action, and it will react to this action in many possible ways, ether by text messeges that will print on your brain and no matter wich save file will you load that text wont go anywhere out of ur head. ( e.x. text about smuggling drugs to earth and bribes amonge security) or by dead body appiring out of nowhere turning its head and looking right at you.

The game also gives you some hints about its knowledge of player’s pattern and about it’s save system via Intentionaly placed bugs, randomly opening and closing/doors ,sound effects glitches, ghost, moving objects, adding objects, altering quest loot even making your character interface work diferentrly.

After some wierd♥♥♥♥♥♥happens i alwyas double check it “maybe its just my mind playing tricks on me”, thx god game alwyas brings proofs that it is not my imagination but the game itself built that way.

And only by doing unpredictable actions like not picking up drugs so conveniently placed to test a player, by not opening door that requers hack skill 1 and looking for keycode insted you make the game flow differently.

THX ARKANE, thx for empty, a lil bit graphicly unfinished, dull rooms for payers who use hacking skill and for great design and interesting storyes for those who gets around without hacking.

Sorry but you sound indeed a little whacky here.. proof about any of the things you list on here would be much appriciated, i could belive that jump scares will be triggerd randomly, but that hacking has an effect on the story is a thing i will only belive with proof backing it up.

Of course the game is geat, but i think you overthink it quite a bit here.

Can someone translate this thread and add some pictures as proof? It is sounding like the ramblings of a madman right now. >_>

i agree, his claims reminded me of undertale, but i highly doubt that a big production with this much complexity could pull off these tricks on it's players.

This reminds me of a phenomenon me and my friend used to see on Garry's Mod back in the day... Doors opening and shutting all over we called them GMod ghosts, this however I have not seen in Prey and I practically only Quicksaved my way through the playthroughs.

Maybe your PC is haunted OP?

Sometimes doors are opening/closing by themselves, and small items in previously explored areas get displaced a bit though no mimics whose could move them are present in the vicinity.

No idea if there are item placement bugs, or some intentional behavior programmed by developers to trick players' minds. Or both.

Interesting, I'm reminded of Fallout (Was it 4 or 3 I can't remember anymore) that when you loaded a quick-save any items you'd picked up nearby would still be gone / mines triggered.

I would think the doors are liked to poltergeist monsters, but maybe it is intetional, would not be too far fetched in the theme of the jump-scary nature of the game.

Postal 2 would have The Postal Dude quip "Didn't you just save?" or "Even my grandmother could beat the game if she saved as much as you."

Some do have the habit of Save Now, Save Often, Save Five Minutes Ago.

But odd happenings to mess with the player's mind aren't new, but are rarely used because they have to be done well or be taken poorly. It was done quite well in Eternal Darkness:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eternal_Darkness

Given the setting...makes sense. Won't say more than that.

If you want games that mess with you you should play as i said undertale or nier: automata atm.
There are other meta / ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ games as well icey and the stanley parable would be grate in that aspect as well.

But back to the topic?
Prey itself, does it have any mind-♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ built in its systems at all?

Given some of the things I have found, I would have to say it is quite likely:

Admired and Resented both represent quite a difference in tone after just plugging them to death. Chances are this is something Avellone had a hand in.

I am thinking along a few similar lines - this topic should be a relevant collection point for the results. :B1:

Live quarters is the best spot to check this theory.
i am not sure if same crap will happen to you.
but just be4 going into the freezer kill the cook and get in to the freezer , then exit the freezer via hatch then quick load, move boxes near hatch outside of freezer and then let the cook freez you, look at small details.
Kindred Spirit May 16, 2017 @ 9:26am
This game is ALL about the small details - in ANY video playback, WATCH THE BACKGROUNDS! Also check all angles in the video you can for some stuff hidden there.

Example: Look to the left in the office video and read the whiteboard for a safe combo.

I made him uncontious before he could trap me, because i saw coming what he wanted to do, as well as i had the info he murded danielle's gf some time ago.

I have to try loading and saving a feew times.
I have a file ready where i killed the cargo crew, because these freaking turrets had to be placed in a very specific way to trigger elazars reaction...
Omfg how many time i wasted grinding ressources there, because i thought i had to make at least two turrets for the longest time. o.O
