Not really
This, bigtime.
As other have mentioned, recycling food - save your alcohol!
Spare weapons can be recycled instead of turned into spare parts!
Recycler charges of corpse piles of about anything. Soylent Med-Kits!
Just curious though, why save alcohol? I haven't been, now wondering if that's a mistake. The fear effect barely lasts long enough to notice. Is there another use?
We're talking about a game that has some design/writing from one of the core designers of Fallout 2, after all, which still has a relatively unknown "cheat" involving drinking a metric ton of alcohol. It's been so long I forget what it was even supposed to do, but it was so ludicrous that fansite forum admins at the time would delete it for being a hoax whenever Interplay employees would discreetly post it.
The fear effect, while annoying to deal with, doesn't actually do much. Just makes you use your mouse a bit more to adjust your aiming. If it is a real problem for you, there is a decent chance you pick up the Fear Shielding chipset, which makes the duration negligible.
Food on the other hand is essentially free medkits Especially if you pick up Metabollic Boost 2, you can cram food in your mouth and never need to craft medkits.
That said, with regards to actually getting ammo, neither food nor drink will help much, since they mostly yield organic. For me, the resource I was running out of by end-game was synthetic, which made recycling alcohol especially important for me. I still have no idea what world items will give decent synthetic yield from a recycler charge...
And keep an eye on what mats food items have: several give minerals and or synthetic.
You can also recycler charge turrets (and other things) in old areas you dont need to visit again.
And if you are not an engineer, or have spare parts to... spare... :P then you can recycle weapons you find.
Well Fed increases Health and Stamina Regen.
Radiation cancels Well Fed.
Drunk cancels Fear and reduces ranged accuracy/visibility but also adds to Melee Damage.
Suit Damage here for completion's sake of the list, just use a Repair Kit.
Get smashed before doing some Impact Calibration!
It's cheating yourself. Now you will never experience the game the way it was meant to be played. That being said, you bought it and it's single player, so do what you like.
I am now picking up that save game, and with 90% of the second playthrough remaining, I have all neuromods, full upgrades to all weapons, 1000 - 10,000 ammo for each weapon, 50 med kits and 50 armour kits.
I have no guilt in doing this whatsoever. I am entirely focussed on exploration so I can uncover everything I missed compared to when I had to focus on survival.
Exploiting a bug isn't cheating the same way that using cheat codes isn't cheating. In other words, it's absolutely cheating. But in a single player game it doesn't make you a bad person, per se.
We'll probably know sometime soon if the developers have planned any evil ways of responding to cheaters by that.
There are a few funny articles around about the subject.
