this, so much this.
playing on hard is becoming way too easy, I really don´t get how some threads whine about this game being difficult and frustrating even on easy, jesus ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ christ...
this game is excellent and I really can´t remember anything close being released for a long long time.
I do agree that the objective markers can be a bit annoying, but I also agree that it takes some imagination with doors that "players can't access yet". I bypassed a bunch of locked doors with the little hunter bow that shoots styrofoam bullets by shooting the unlock button on the other side. Creative movements like that that make me stop, pause, and critically analyze my options are just the bee's knees.
Hacking minigame is horrible though. Just like Bioshock <3
If you're the kind of player who tries to complete as many quests as possible before finishing the game, then traveling to and fro will quickly bleed you dry of ammo and supplies.
Every trip back to the Arboretum or Lobby contains new Weavers, a Nightmare, and other Phantoms -- yet, of course, no new loot drops.
I'm now drinking from water fountains and hiding repaired turrets in hallways, yet having to refight the same enemies every time I return.
I'd like to hear how others are coping with this (at the 30+ hour mark) -- or are you just rushing the main story line to finish the game?
So yeah, I think I broke the game, or the area at least. I sequence broke. I got in there earlier and defeated an enemy I shouldn't be able to and got a plan i shouldn't have yet. And I could... just do that. By just being creative with my tools and looking around carefully.
And that to me is a videogame experience worth a million CODs.
On the backtracking all I can say is: "You don't need to fight every mob" Sneak a little if you wanna go in John Rambo style that's your choise but thats probably why you are so mad!
---------------
I'm 20h in on my very first playthrough and on Nightmare difficulty (I like to punish myself, OK!)
Here is what I've learned:
Mimics and Greater Mimics: GLOO and Wrench (only use a single Shotgun shell on them if you need to hurry)
Phantoms: GLOO + 1 Charged Wrench Blast (this won't break applied GLOO) and then Shotgun them
Special Phantom's: The Purple ones I usually use the same tactics as the normal ones they can split up though but then they get half HP each. Fire Keep moving all the time and unload 9mm on them (Don't miss). Electric Same as fire but you can stand still as long as they ain't to close.
Weavers: Q-Beam makes very short work of them and I didn't encouter one of them until i had that weapon.
Morphs: Well, these I have the most problems with but i found out that looking behind corners and pumping them full of 9mm bullets is one of the safest ways to kill 'em (Q-beam is also good but you'll encounter 'em before you get the weapon)
Nightmares: I don't even try tackeling them and usually baricade myself in a room that can be closed of from the inside! (the rewards aren't worth the cost of the bullets you're pumping into them) just wait out the timer and they will go away!
Only played on normal, but wthout any Typhon-Mods that could substitute for weapons, and never really felt strapped for it.
One has to play carefully, and sometimes just running past enemies in an already explored area (Arboretum comes to my mind) where you just pass through is advised.
Backtracking? It is not a problem, at least nor for me. Why should it? This is not a linear game-world. You have to explore it. Did anyone ever complain that Skyrim or Witcher 3 had "backtracking" ?
Again, very very wrong. Recycle grenades are always good...when inventory is full, dump allt he stuff you would normally convert in a corner - throw in a heap of other items - Chairs/cases/bins/dead operators/etc and throw grenade.
I have no idea how ppl are so low on ammo - I am recycling ammo atm.
I got the focus attack thing and while helpful the wrench just doesnt do enough damage to the stronger enemies. Shotgun shells are too rare to find and making them uses too much rare material. Why bother offering another play style if you can barely use it?
I mean i use stealth and attacking about equal in games normally but the sneaking mechanic doesnt seem to work most of the time (even with the upgrade) since they see you within a second or two even when you lean! What the hell is that about. As far as i can tell it doesnt offer you any advantage for a stealth attack. Not that ive managed to do one yet as somehow i always get seen before i approach
I dunno theres just too many annoying mechanics in this game thats just sucking the fun right out of it. You get told to go down this hallway to this room, oh look theres another annoying enemy to fight because you have no choice (even though the game makes emphasis on alternate paths to objectives but there isnt one).
When you engage them they massacre you. It even seems like they can take away your health without you even being near it. I dont get it. I just get massacred all the time.
Am i missing something? I dont even get hit by them and and somehow my health still gets sucked away. I know they leave a aura around their corpses but thats after you've killed them.
Man, im trying so hard here.
Maybe the game is just not your cup of tea? Sometimes a game and i just dont "click".
Can be a fantastic game by all accounts and i still dont have any fun.
GTA 5 comes to mind, that game bored me to tears. Its just not my kind of game. I still acknowledge that its probably a great game for a lot of players but its just not for me.
If you dont have fun, just let it go. Its pointless to force yourself to play something you dont like.
Im not willing to let 40 quid go to waste
Sometimes we buy something that goes to waste. It happens. Either power through the game if you think that makes the money spend more bearable or stop playing something you dont like.
The game wont change itself to make it more fun for you. If you dont like the gameplay now at your current place in the game you wont like the rest of the game either.
Its just more of the same, just with more and stronger enemies down the line.
The core gameplay stays the same.
