Beam Weapon
So I haven't got too far in the game, but unless I miss something what's the point of every other conventional gun (pistol, shotgun) when the beam weapon melts phantoms in a second and you get it so early (I actually found it before the shotgun). What's even better is that you can craft its ammo really easy...Are there enemies resistant to beam energy later on?

I shouldn't spend to much resources on making ammo for that, its to expensive. Save it for hard and big enemies. When it comes to phantoms you can get skills and chipsets that will make you able to knock them down when you swing a fully charged wrench. When they are down just keep smashing their head in until they die. If you get a sneak attack on them they will die when you are done with them.

Q-BEAM ammo is very scarce compared to other weapons, and it eats up a lot of it. If you use it for every phantom you see, you're going to run out very quickly - and not have any against enemies where you really want to use it.

I guess it also depends on your difficulty. I tried it out on a phantom right after I got it, and nearly died. It doesn't kill them so fast they can't get a shot off at you, and firing it slows you down.

Use it with combat focus, and it is really difficult to mess up.

Exactly this, plus upgrade combat focus and beam weapon to the max. There is one critter it doesn't work on. Check your research results.. It does use a lot of ammo so only use when you have to.

for me it uses 3/3 cubes for a +2 pack I believe, and I already have 30 cubes of matter after a few hours. Doesn't seem that expensive...a +2 pack holds about 2.5 reloads

How are you supposed to find it then?
I scan every corner and i am now at the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ technopath (lift), which is borderline impossible.

The gun? it's in the first area you visit - hardware labs. Won't spoil the actual location, but it's pretty obvious

Use the stun gun and EMP grenades.

Stun Gun, almost forgot about that one!
Thanks.
EMP i was using but it was not enough to ensure full incapicitation.

Well I didn't find it before the shotgun, and when I did, I still can't make any ammo for it.

To OP, yes, Q-Beam can melt anything, but you shouldn't just use it on everything or you're history. Save it for hard to kill trashmobs.

I mean you shouldn't waste it's rare ammo on crystaloids (pistol), operators (stun gun), etc.
Tyrax May 12, 2017 @ 6:12pm
Operators I just wrench, haven't got the stun gun yet so I guess I'm not that far :D

The ammo blueprint can be found on the computer terminal in the same room you find the beam gun. And making it is really cheap, I don't get it why people say ammo for it is scarce...it's just 3 cubes for a pack that lasts you 2/3 reloads.

Q-beam will not function against some phatoms(volt emitting phantoms). And GLOO gun won't function against them too.

But you know, with fully upgraded shotgun, you have much higher dps than Q-beam.
And yes, I only fire shotgun 8 times to take down a nightmare.
