Prey
Normal Pistol vs Artemis
From what I understand the Artemis pistol is meant to have increased damage vs the normal variant, but from the stats. My normal variant fully upgraded does 23 damage per shot whereas my artemis does 19.

Is this meant to be correct?

Any advice would be appreciated ^^

EDIT: I've just walked out of the crew quarters, and the damage on my normal variant has dropped from 23 to 15. I'm rather confused right now.

Just to clarify, this is from the stats from the inventory page, not the damage numbers coming off on landed shots.

artemis = golden gun? I guess I never actually read its name in the description.

Did you mod it (the new one)?

Yeah, those stats i lsited were both fully modded, but strangely enough, the stats for the normal variant dropped when i left the area. Maybe it was a UI bug?

Likely, the golden pistol has better stats than the standard one. Shotgun, I heard both are the same.

I've been getting that bug with the Artemis pistol too. Sometimes it'll show the damage as 23 in my inventory, but it still does the standard 16 when I shoot an enemy.

Distance affects damage. The closer you are the higher the damage will be, with a max of whatever your damage stat is.

I'm factoring in the stats that are listed from the inventory. Not the damage listed when you land a shot.

Normal pistol does base 15 damage, and Artemis does base 19. Also has a larger final magazine size.

In that case the golden gun should have higher damage.

I just got the Artemis pistol too and thought it was weaker than the standard at first. My standard pistol is unmodified (i was waiting till i got the golden pistol).

In the crew quarters my standard pistol stats say "firepower 18 (unmodified 12)". As soon as i go to a different level of the game the inventory says "firepower 12 (unmodified 8) like it should be. If i come back again to the crew quarters it goes back to 18 again.
Really strange bug. Can't tell if it's just an inventory bug or if the pistol really is more powerful in the crew quarters.

The golden gun is better then the normal. You shouldn't upgrade your pistol before getting the golden as that is just a waste.

i only use the pistol to pick off mimics. shottie is way more usefull and ammo is plentyfull if you do proper inventory managment

I only compared the two weapons after fully upgrading them. I thought "Maybe this is a display bug?" regarding the lower damage on the golden gun. But... no, I fired at a phantom at close quarters with both and the normal gun did more damage by a healthy margin.

Makes sense, really. Gold is a softer metal, and heavy... so you don't get the same performance.

Regarding location: On my game, pre-patches (because of COURSE they fix all the things right after I close it after I finish.) I saw higher damage in inventory for the normal gun when comparing them in Morgan's office.

When and where do you get the Golden pistol?

There's a sidequest. It is found in the crew quarters, in a safe. But unless it was changed in the patches, it does less damage per shot. I upgraded both, lower stats in inventory, and I tested it shooting a phantom.

Side quest in Crew Quarters. You can also start it on the bridge but not needed.
