Seems fair and as it proves Arkane didnt test the game thoroughly enough in the first place.
Same happened with Dishonored 2 and having mouse movement tied to framerate - a big oversight on their part that ruined many peoples first impressions of the game.
I wouldn't buy a boat that let in water
I wouldn't buy a car that didn't break
I wouldn't buy a pencil that didn't write
There's some bias because i also experience the problem.
But in that case i can apply reverse bias to all those in the (other thread) that are all RAH RAH IGN SUCKS LOL I DONT HAVE THIS PROBLEM 10/10.
If an idiot speaks reason, it doesn't make it lies.
After playing the demo on PS4, I was very sceptical about the game at first and decided to wait for some reviews.
Learning on pcinvasion that the game performs very well on PC (using the CryEngine now) and after reading the positive reviews on RPS and Polygon changed my mind. Can't complain but I just had a peek this morning.
Can't spell ignorant without IGN. 👌
If the game does not function, its quality is not important.
"But wait, it only corrupted saves for them. Works for me."
Nobody cares.
If a game is so unlucky to cause issues due to bugs in the hands of a reviewer, that reviewer is morally obligated to call it out and asses what impact it can have.
That is objectivity and journalism 101.
Did IGN encounter save corruption.
Yes or no equation.
The answer is yes.
Case closed. They can give it a 4 due to this bug only, ignoring any other considerations.
So you are telling me that they do not have another gaming PC they could have tested the game on, so they could actually finish the game? Instead we got this half-assed 2:49 MINUTE review giving the game a 4 for something that has already been fixed. They don't even give out the specs of the PC they were playing the game at? Or drivers? What kind of professionalism is this? The issue should have been mentioned on the technical aspects of the game, not the core game itself. He could have actually finished the game, as he was enjoying it, and rated it accordingly - then mention that on PC X/Y he got this bug and leave a warning. A bug that was eventually fixed. So no, a 4/10 for that is not valid.

Reviews are not apologists for developers.
If there is any hint that the game is broken, they must report on it. It is one thing for some random unverifiable dude on the Internet to experience issues. Completely a different thing for a big reviewer to experience a game breaking bug.
They don't need to give PC specs. When the last time you heard of a massive reviewer encountering game breaking bugs? It is very rare, even in the case where a lot of normal people are experiencing bugs. This means that statistically speaking, their PCs are good enough for the job.
Can you guarantee with a straight face that some other people out there do not have the same PC as the reviewer? Can you guarantee that it is a PC related issue, not a general save corruption bug? Can you guarantee that the patch fixes it? Can you guarantee that people will update?
If the answers are not, IGN are well in their right to not recommend a game that they personally experience as broken.
Imagine the alternative: IGN gives it an 8, says there are no issues, even though the beginning worked fine, but after N hours saves were corrupt, you buy the game, enjoy it greatly, and after M hours, you can't load.
Please tell me, Chasmas, would you go to Steam reviews and leave it a high score?
Considering he is an executive review editor of a mainstream outlet like IGN (Yes they may not be relevant but still a large number of sheep value their inputs and the Metacritic takes their score into account), so a 4 from that guy is rather worrying.
Oh sod off with that logic. This gen has seen more unpolished and buggy games than any other. Battlefield 4, Fallout 4, ME Andromeda, Halo MC Edition. Yet they received decent scores mostly for the content.
Just for a second, assume you're a game reviewer (although highly not possible) who has to play and review a game within 5 days deadline and you experience a game breaking bug. What do you do?
You ask your boss either to extend the deadline or pass on the task to another guy another system.
