[SPOILERS] Did Morgan Fail?
This discussion contains some spoilers from the final cutscene retrieved after the credits.

When confronted by Alex in the final cutscene, he reveals you are a typhon who has been given the memories of Morgan Yu. The world is comsumed in the Coral (and presumably the Typhon). How did the world come to this? Did the outbreak on Talos 1 actually happen or was it all a simulation?

From this ending I think the events on the Talos 1 did occur, but the outbreak was not destroyed or contained. Therefore (the original) Morgan Yu failed to stop the Typhon.

If Morgan failed, then there is a high chance he died on Talos 1. His corpse could have been converted into a Phantom (Typhon) and this Phantom is the player character. It makes sense as the Typhon (that you are) has the memory of Morgan Yu.

That's my theory.

As a disclaimer, I've only completed 2 endings in this game (using Alex's escape pod to bug out early and detonating the reactors and then using the escape pod), and I have not played the previous Prey games.

Tell me what you think of this discussion.

I would say that Morgan possibly died as a result of the testing they were doing? They were a bit too vague with the ending in my opinion given the direction they went.

The "Hybrid" Typhon is one of many experiments Alex has run to create a "bridge." But it does bring up the question of what kind of remenants of Morgan does Alex have?

Nice read .. Rigged Render

According to the story line, Typhons have been around for years in our space, which would mean they knew of us long before we knew about them .. "they are afraid of us" ~Morgan Yu

There's something natural keeping them at bay from over running Earth (i would keep it simple), be it the clouds, ozone layer, magnetic flux, solar winds from the Sun, who knows? Something keeps them as space dwellers, when it comes to Earth ... ~My2Cents :victorypeacesign:

The implication was that the Mimics found in the Soviet space craft were possibly dormant for a long period of time. Supposedly they were on/around the moon. Not sure why they never made it to Earth though.

There's something about that russian secret mission that explains the why's ...

1) what experiments was the russians running?

It would explain why the Typhons showed up at their door step ...
And attacked ..

2) what did the russian experiment do to the Typhons that made them "afraid of us"?

3) did the russians unknowingly wipe out most of the Typhon's race, which made them send advanced scouts, to attack back while they rebuild what's left of their world?

4) did the russians use a simple transmission on a specific frequency as a weapons test in space, aimed away from Earth which unknowingly got the Typhon's attention, (see number 3) ..

This could get very interesting .. :batsilo:

There were no experiments initially. Russians encountered mimics and space, mimics killed some russians, because they use some resources of human body to breed. If you were paying attention, while playing the game, it was specified, that typhons are "perfect spiders", just waiting until someone alive is coming by, while hiding in another dimension.

Right after this incident, russians contacted USA for help in containing mimics, and in studying them.

Not to burst your bubble, but i am well aware of the story behind what is being told to us, from the russians to get us involved, BUT ..

it's also known fact that both countries have been sending signals at different frequencies into space, as part of a weapons program ..

FACT: high-intensity radio frequency Radio waves, can and is being used as weapons, which are made sure not to be directed towards earth .. (been doing it since the 70's) ..

JFK was assassinated in 1963 in our Universe. Not so in the alternate-Universe of Prey. So using what we did post-1963 as facts doesn't reeeally make them facts in terms of Prey. Anything pre-1963, sure ;)

does it matter really?

technology didn't change or the use thereof .. JFK NOT being assasinated is just FLUFF ..

Do you guys remember the books that are laying about where there is a women talking about leaving her dog in a city after loads of sirens went off and there was a pink mist in the sky?

She said there were jets flying over and they were bombing something near a football stadium and in one of the later books (theres 3 I believe) they actually nuke a city.

Perhaps that was the start of thr Typhon taking over Earth?

I can grab some screenshots if you guys are interested as I assume they will be saved for me in game.

At some point in the game you can retrieve logs of the original Morgan suggesting it would be possible to solve Typhon aggressiveness by using neuromods to create mirror neurons (which Typhons do not naturally have), allowing them to empathize like humans do. That's your first hint that you're not actually playing Morgan but rather the result of his idea being experimented upon.

Well it matters if you're going to cite anything which happened in our history after 1963 as fact in the context of the alternate Universe Prey is set in, yeah.

In Prey, JFK not being assassinated isn't just fluff, it's the entire foundation of their fictional reality. Kind of like arguing that the Nazis winning WWII is just fluff in The Man in the High Castle ;)

This could be true. However, one of the endings strongly hints they tried this with more than one Typhon (and failed). So they have his memories, but it's not necessarily the phantom from Morgans body IMO. Especially considering Earth is (presumably) wiped out by the Typhon and Alex probably is the only survivor (?).

Also, on one of the audio logs, there's a mention of someone being surprised about Morgan being on the space station when he was supposed to be on Earth. Did Morgan perhaps escape the chaos on Talos-1 and spread the Typhon to Earth himself?

Yeah I think you are right about the multiple attempts. When you follow the quest 'Who is December' later in the game you get Alex's escape pod key. If you ignore the multiple phone calls you get from Alex and January and use the escape pod you fly out a little bit then get the error screen we keep seeing and you get alex saying 'We have failed, this is not the one' then you have to reload a save.

Pretty clear at that point you are in a simulation of some sort.
