i think most of the phantoms are former crew members

yes but they were dead already before the alien(dont remember which kind does the changing) change them into phantoms...that why i pile all the dead in huge pile in each area and recycle them. less weapons...for the enemy.

would that actually prevent enemy from reappearing?

dont know for sure if this would decrease some of the enemy in areas over time; was doing my second playthrough and trying this out...until the lastest patch came out. err think im going try the community patch for controller support(tried of waiting on devs to fix their game).

Weavers make phantoms out of the dead. All are former crew or "volunteers"(unnamed ones) lore-wise. I'm pretty sure recycling the dead does nothing unless a weaver is scripted to be in a room that just conveniently happens to have a good supply of bodies.

Pretty much this. Any enemies scripted to spawn, or part of the repopulation tables will still show up regardless.

But it will certainly cut down on them when the game's trying to go all "See now natural these enemy counts are?" by making a Weaver rez some jumped up fancy phantoms. So that can be worth the effort since those guys are jerks.

A lesser version of the situation with mimics for most of the game I guess? While they are all "They multiply by eating bodies" and they show that off with some scripted snacks. Most of the game it's situations like seeing a room full of 4+ Mimics scurrying around. and they will all ignore the fresh non face melted dead body flopped over a desk.

I've never seen a weaver create mimics from bodies. I don't think it can happen. Bodies are actually ammo for the player (not the typhon) to use with the Phantom Genesis skill.

I believe the weaver does this only with a live person. It infects the body and then the mimics come out. If i'm not mistaking, this can happen to a "volunteer", if the player chooses so.
