I checked out Styx a while back and... yeah in Dishonored i like taht you can choose how you want to play it. Thats why i havent bought Styx, cause you are forced to stealth.
Alien Isolation! Thats also a very great Game! I already played it a few times. =)
Anyway, thanks OP. A lot of these games came about due to influences that are unlikely to be repeated.
They are so damned expensive to make, we got Dishonered 1/2 + Prey because Bethesda said go forth and create - the result was it was so unprofitable they sacked one of the studio heads.
It will be interesting to see what type of game Deathloop is. Probably PvP\PvE similar to the crossing.
These things are a labour of love by people who grew up on them, so perhaps in 5 years someone will get hungry for it and have another go at it.
What would be great is if these games were a great success, and more than one AAA studio actually had a crack at them. Mind you no one has seriously attempted a AAA Elder Scrolls clone, and they make millions, so go figure.

The Bioshock games are pretty good, although they're also not as deep as other immersive sims. Somebody mentioned Far Cry being brain dead, but FC2 is actually pretty good, allowing you to deploy a large and varied arsenal against challenging and dynamic AI using whatever tactics you see fit. Stealth is not busted in FC2 like people say, it's just hard to pull off, you need to wait for a stormy morning to really pull it off. Clint Hocking worked on the game, and he's known for his work on Splinter Cell (also a good series to check out if you liked Dishonored). Also, Crysis 1 provides similar tactical flexibility if you like that aspect of immersive sims.
If you enjoyed the light RPG stuff, Horizon Zero Dawn is coming to PC soon...
Besides that, there's of course the older immersive sims. Thief, Deus Ex, System Shock. All worth checking out if you can handle chunky graphics and sometimes frustrating mechanics.
There's a certain magic about immersive sims. Other games look pretty simple after experiencing the likes of Prey, don't they?
Alien Isolation - good production but overall linear story, but there is multiple ways to do some things, including surviving. Good immersion. Has a similar explore vibe to Prey where there are a few Point-of-no-return where after them changes the explorable area if you are doing side-quest run.
Fallout 4 - probably tried that already but ya I find it also fits the genre nicely, depending how you play it. Mutli-objective/largest exploration/fairly long. Also cheap nowadays.
- Single player
- First person
- real physic models (no comic style)
Result:
Deus Ex
Dishonored
Prey
Resident Evil
Fallout
STALKER
System Shock
Thief
Vampire
Bioshock
Far Cry
Most of them are very old and unplayable these days. But I loved them all...
